Importance of the FA Cup.

Prize money for every round. If, I know it's a big if, we made it to the first round proper we'd have accumulated £30,925 prize money.

I take it that's a nice little earner for a club of our size.

No idea of accounts, wage bill, how much we earn in gate receipts etc, would be interesting to know. But yeah, home tie next round against a team in the division bellow, great chance to get to the 3rd qualifying round then who knows!

I'm glad that you found that link because it looks like the amounts have been doubled over the last couple of years for the very early rounds (it used to be £1500 for FACQ1 winners rising to £10000 for FACQ4), and of course the amount raised by gate receipts comes in useful too.

To put it in proportion, the prize money reaching the First Round Proper would be the equivilant of half a season's gate receipts for league fixtures. IF (and its still a very big if), we could progress to this stage, I would suggest we would be likely to be one of the lowest ranked clubs in the competition in terms of league status and that might well attract live tv coverage. As as we all know tv = ££

Actually Raiden it would be £29,425 if we reached the 1st round (I think you added in extra prelim as well) but Noggin In fact our entire gate receipts last season including season tickets,friendlies and cups was only just over £25K, so to get there would indeed be very important.

The FA Cup used to always guarantee it would produce your biggest crowd of the season, not any more, most teams have fewer at these games nowadays, and even worse if you support a Sheffield team. I'm old enough to remember some huge upsets in the FA Cup, Sutton beating Coventry was one and I remember another biggie, but I wont mention that just noo. lol

Problem is, the FA Cup doesn't offer as much money as the Premier League. It's a sad state of affairs when a team would rather finish 4th than win the FA Cup.

Not only will it be good in terms of the prize money, though. Getting to the first round will increase our popularity a lot, therefore getting more people through the gates. Will it happen? Let's bloody well hope so!
