Well. Much better second half. What knuckle draggers they bring though.

Substitutions made a big difference for me.

Did enjoy the Stour players going towards the away end to clap the fans only to find 90% of them left.

Subs were a huge difference. Milan was superb.

Subs made the difference for me. We were already on top and they were tiring. Then we went up a gear. Deserved it in the end after a pretty poor, scrappy game. If we had lost to that calamitous 1st minute goal it would have been an injustice. It's nice to get another one over the local rivals but it's only 3 points still and it's important to take it into Tuesdays game now. Well done lads. Onwards!

Southern League Premier Central – Saturday, 22nd February 2025

Halesowen Town 3 Stourbr*dge 1

Halesowen staged a dramatic late turnaround to win the much-awaited local derby in front of over 3,000 fans, writes DJ.

Yeltz manager Russ Penn was delighted. “We dominated from start to finish. The goal at the start put us on the back foot, but eventually our quality and legs showed through. We kept banging the drum and thoroughly deserved the three points.”

The win means Halesowen were awarded the Brookes-Clark Shield and a presentation was also made for Kieren Donnelly’s 100th appearance before the game.

Stourbr*dge took the lead within 40 seconds when a long ball played in Ethan FREEMANTLE and he took the ball around goalkeeper Dan Platt to slot home from a wide angle.

The first half then had plenty of effort but lacked quality on a heavy pitch. Conor Tee’s 9th minute penalty appeal was turned down and Kieren Donnelly couldn’t convert in front of goal a minute later, allowing Glassboys’ goalkeeper Callum Smith to gratefully smother the ball.

Further half-chances followed for the Yeltz as Tee fired over the bar in the 25th minute from Donnelly’s cross and McKauley Manning struck a long range effort at Smith a minute later.

Donnelly fired a snapshot over the bar in the 35th minute before Jourdain Masidi shot just wide for the visitors. A 38th minute Stourbr*dge corner was cleared off the line but the Yeltz went close in the 40th minute when Donnelly’s shot was pushed away by Smith and Blaine Rowe prevented Todd Parker from converting the rebound.

Platt made a good fingertip save to prevent Stourbr*dge doubling their lead at the start of the second half after Alex Moore’s free-kick led to a goalmouth scramble.

Little then changed as Stourbr*dge sat back to protect their lead but only served to invite the Yeltz on to launch their late show in the final few minutes.

Jak Hickman’s deflected cross was turned away from Donnelly at the far post by Rowe. The Yeltz then equalised in the 79th minute when Tee’s corner was picked up by substitute Charlie WRAGG and he hit home a sweeping low shot just inside the post for his first Halesowen goal.

DONNELLY tapped home the loose ball to make it 2-1 in the 85th minute after substitute Milan Butterfield challenged goalkeeper Smith. There was still time for Halesowen to add a third goal on the break to add to the Glassboys’ gloom when Wragg slotted through for DONNELLY to advance and beat Smith with his second goal in the sixth minute of added time.

Disappointed Stourbr*dge manager could only confirm “Halesowen were the better team, their second half performance warranted the win. The boys were tired I could tell, but we needed to stay with them for as long as we could. We had a mad 15 minutes.”

Halesowen Town: Dan Platt; Jak Hickman, Reece Mitchell (Ben Cassidy 69), Josh Smile, Jamie Willets, Ryan Wollacott, Todd Parker, Conor Tee, Kieren Donnelly, Reece Flanagan (c) (Charles Wragg 72), McKauley Manning (Kacy Butterfield 69). Subs Not Used: Musa Ceesay Ceesay, Alex Cameron.

Subs deffo made the difference. Especially Cassidy running at them.
Full credit to them for keeping at it and the last 15 mins was total 1 way traffic.
Apart from the calamitous start (which seemed a carbon copy of the ball which lead to Wynter's sending off) Platty was almost one of the 300 watching.

Still not convinced with our tactics of long balls but with today's pitch I guess it was the best option.Good to see the Stour fans stay to applaud their team ;) .
On to Kettiring next and hopefully we can come away with a point.
Lets enjoy tonight though as we get another one over them ;D

I wouldn't knock their lot after some of the 'extras' I saw frequenting our end this afternoon. No nastiness though so all good. Just apparent that brain cell distribution amongst the population is very random.
