I cannot seem to find Penns aftermatch interview, and Fairweather fan, I think that Penn is clueless and with his tactics and refusal to sign better players especially strikers, I cannot see him turning it round.
Interesting post, this. And, personally, I think the various elements are linked. Here's why:

When Yussef arrived, I thought it was an "OK" signing. Player with experience at the level, also ex-pro, and maybe that person we needed to hold the ball up and use a bit of canniness in the final third. But my impression was that he wasn't going to be our "main striker", and that we had someone else in mind to make up the final piece of the summer transfer business.

But two things quickly transpired:
1. Yussef wasn't up to the task. From the very first friendly, his ability was being cross-examined, and since then his work rate has seriously come under question too. Sadly, it's resulted in an empty shirt every week, with no goal threat and no hold up capability.
2. There was never another striker coming. He was brought in as first choice and, what's more, we're committed to him for the season with a contract and (rumoured) big wages.

So Penn's hands are tied. He's forced to try and find a system that works around this - including thrusting KD into an unfamiliar striker's role - and on Saturday we saw a tombola of tactics. You can visibly see the frustration on the players as they have to huff and puff in various positions to try and find a system that works without a striker.

As for his refusal to sign better players, they simple answer is - he can't! The budget is gone and, until we somehow manage to offload Yussef (unlikely, and very costly, I'd imagine) we don't have the space to do so. So again, we're gambling in the transfer market too - trying to find offcuts and cheap options in the hope of unturfing a diamond.

All that said, and depressing as it is, I do think we've got more than enough capability in this squad. We found a system that worked at one point (wing backs), but we HAVE to solve the above and find a striker who can do a job. Like I've said elsewhere, though - this needs some brutal, honest and structural changes, rather than crossed fingers and praying for luck.

Good points.

However, who do we think is responsible for the signing and was it the same person who thought telling Hayward he could have a tryout with us was a good idea? The same person who saw Booth in pre-season and thought yes?

Appears to still be training with Leicester City. Working towards coaching badges. Maybe should stick to that and reduce our wage bill. https://x.com/adiyussuf/status/1837192477033353253

On balance, Penn kept about the right amount of players from last season and I thought the additions were mostly quite sensible and logical. But - yes - with regards to this particular signing, it's a situation entirely of his own making.

Why didn't Penn's assistant from Kiddie come with him?

So to summarize, we are stuck with a crap centre forward who is apparently useless, who is on mega money, and we are stuck with him on contract. Noone else would touch him with a barge pole so we are stuck with him killing our budget all season, so we have no more money to buy anyone else.

Heres a thought - as we all know football once you reach your level can be 50% confidence based/in your head. This lad has played at this level beofre etc so must have something about him. Instead of us 'supporters' constantly slagging his chap off - probably adding to him having even poorer performances, why dont we -

Draw a line under past 10 or so games, and get behind our centre forward, really back him and see if it helps him turn a corner? You never know what might happen. He is only human and I am sure he isnt playing badly on purpose - so come on (if we are stuck with him) back him, support him, help him. Its far to easy for fans just to slag someone off. We want him to perform and score goals I am sure he wants the same - so stop slating the bloke and at very least wipe the slate clean and give him a chance.

I am fed up with seemingly everything and everyone being written off as crap. Remember my words with the Smith debate I said careful what you wish for. Our fan base IMO is one of the least tolerant and forgiving in local/non league football. All the ups we have had past 5 odd years and now its only ever crap. Unless we win then its BRILLIANT. lots on here might not like this feedback or my point of view, but have a look at yourselves all this is very counter productive.

A little unfair on the Bromsgrove faithful

Not really sure why we are putting a player on contract who is in their 30s especially someone who past their best a few years ago. Basically we haven't got a centre forward have we ??
As for training what exactly are we working on ?

But, Mr McGinn aside, not entirely wrong.

Win and everyone is singing ‘we’re on our way’. Lose, and it’s all doom and gloom.

That said, Saturday was really, really bad so some of the reaction is justified. However, we do have a tendency to get carried away in both directions (but isn’t that just football?!)
