#OTD in 1896 (125 years ago), defender Tommy Smart was born in Blackheath. He played for Halesowen in the 1919/20 season before signing for Aston Villa in January 1920. He went on to make 405 league appearances for Villa.
DJ wrote a fantastic article all about Tommy back in 2013. You can find that here: https://web.archive.org/web/20150412104 ... villa.html

Re: Tommy Smart
After some effort, we now have a street named after Tommy Smart. It's in Rowley, not too far from where Tommy lived. Surely he's the only Yeltz player to have such a tribute?

I noticed the fact that only four months after playing for us, he was an FA Cup winner!

I'd buy a house in 'Eldon Maquemba Avenue'.

Re: Tommy Smart
That is spooky. I was just about to joke that there must be a road named after Alan Atwood! Weird.
