Re: Restart
Noticed a few leagues are postponing the start of the season for another couple of weeks. Suppose that’s an easy decision for the more Northern leagues where everyone’s in Tier 3 but trickier for the Southern where the majority are in the relative luxury of Tier 2.
Even if the season does resume as planned, then you have the issue that the accrued fixtures from the last month need rearranging. And nobody in their right mind will play them just yet - they’re just going to pile up until right at the end of the season.
Basically what I’m saying is we’ll have ten home games with 1000+ crowds in April on the way to winning the league.

Re: Restart
It’s not only the fixtures that have accrued so far, but also the fixtures that will build up whilst we are in the current situation. Given that the NHS can scarcely cope with ‘flu in a normal year, it would be a surprise (a pleasant one) if restrictions were noticeably relaxed before the beginning of March.
For the season to be played out there are 3 options that come to mind: abandonment (as last season(, extension into the summer, or revised timetable (eg each team only plays once, such that we do not play teams like Barton, Corby, Yaxley again as we have already played this season). I am sure that others will think of options too.
March/April timescale also fits with a vaccination programme and the attendant effectivity lag to to reach critical mass.

Re: Restart
You’re absolutely right. The longer we go on the more unlikely it is that we’ll play out a 38 game season and, after last year’s conclusion, I’d rather it was planned out and agreed upfront.Noggin wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 10:19It’s not only the fixtures that have accrued so far, but also the fixtures that will build up whilst we are in the current situation. Re: Restart
I agree, would suggest the first constructive change to make is play off abolishment for this season. Use the old fashioned top two to up, removing the necessity for extra games at season's end.

Re: Restart
...that is why I was disappointed that the league rules were not changed before the start of season to make it clear what would happen in the event of a truncated season. It was obvious even in the middle of summer that there would be an uplift in C-19 cases once people gathered indoors in autumn.
I can understand why there there was the push to restart in August and appreciate the effort that the sporting bodies put into achieving this but it was always going to be only half of the story

Re: Restart
Agree with you Kev, but I genuinely believe the people running our game are incapable of foresight. They only ever seem capable of fixing things that aren't broken or making crass decisions. Anything helpful seems to elude them.Noggin wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 15:04...that is why I was disappointed that the league rules were not changed before the start of season to make it clear what would happen in the event of a truncated season. Re: Restart
Your third option, Nogster, seems to be the only way we're going to see any form of competitive season, although as you say in a later post it's surprising the league have not established a way of deciding matters. No, not surprising, bloody disgraceful!Noggin wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 10:19It’s not only the fixtures that have accrued so far, but also the fixtures that will build up whilst we are in the current situation. After the fiasco at end of last season, you would have thought the SL would have learned a lesson? But then again, we are talking football administrators

100% agree it should have been decided before a ball was kicked, because now whatever is decided some clubs will throw toys from the pram .... farce as usualWestyeltz wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 17:03Your third option, Nogster, seems to be the only way we're going to see any form of competitive season, although as you say in a later post it's surprising the league have not established a way of deciding matters. Worrying news from The Oracle -

The worry of course being that we only have three days to teach Colin how to use Zoom...
Mind you, if we can do that, we can use Lockdown 3 to do the same for Westy.
