Bedford match postponed

Post by AwayDayYeltz » 02 Nov 2020, 14:27

Looks like the decision was ours, and Bedford were more than happy to get the fixture played.

It'll be interesting to see if the club comments, and outlines the reasons as to why they have decided to not fulfil the fixture.

I'll be cynical and suggest that I think Paul Smith has perhaps taken the view that with injuries and our recent form, we face a tough game, and has possibly shirked (I mean that as respectfully as possible) the challenge, with the hope of using the lockdown period as a chance to get players back from injury, and to adjust the squad, so we're in better shape when we eventually re-start the season.

I understand that point, if it's the case. Intact, I quite agree with it.

From a personal and selfish point of view, I'm left feeling frustrated, as I've booked time off work to make the journey, and purchased a ticket in advance. Hopefully I'll manage to get a refund.

I was also looking forward to this, as it would have been the last live match I'd have been able to see, for quite some time. I'm with Tim, and can't see us playing again this side of Christmas.

Southern League gave the option to call it off (Stour have made themselves popular with Rushall for the same decision), we're short of a few players still, and not in good form, against a side who will challenge, no brainer. Glad it's been called off (though I'd have gone!). We've done nothing wrong! If we lose it when it is played, at least we hopefully will have a full squad. Bravo!

To my mind and having just got a negative test, thank god, it makes perfect sense. I suspect its more to do with protecting our staff than anything more cynical.....and Im a trained cynic!!

I believe Rushall asked for the Stourbr*dge game to be called off due to Covid cases

Whichever what way we look at it, it's for the best. If we can come back stronger, great. We may have to put up with more of these breaks as the months go by, and by the end of the 9th wave hopefully we are promoted. ;D
