Re: Frickley Home
Missed the first half, apparently pretty disappointing, but in the second half we did something which I haven't sadly seen too much of this season, free-flowing attacks with plenty of people getting forward. JMG was at the core of just about everything exciting and asking questions of the Frickley defence. JH has to make a New Year Resolution : stop making apparently unnecessary defensive substitutions when we're winning and comfortable, this is at least the 3rd time it has happened and the opposition almost immediately scored - not sure we even touched the ball again before it happened this time. It just breaks our rhythm, and we get punished. Two points lost again, not a great Xmas present for the hard-core fans we seem to be down to again.

Re: Frickley Home
I'm going to start this post with the negatives...
Firstly drawing at home to Frickley (not a very good team, let's be honest) after being 1-0 up, isn't a good result.
I think at 1-0 up we 'set up shop', and seemingly tried to see the game out, while inviting pressure. Why so negative?
Also, once Frickley got their undeserved equaliser, I was disappointed at how little we peppered the Frickley goal in the last ten minutes. We had one good chance, which drew a good save form their keeper. That isn't good enough for a home side chasing a win against a mediocre side, at home.
The above would be irrelevant if, after taking a deserved lead, we'd have been positive and gone for the second goal.
I thought we played decent today, but in saying that, how many times did we test the keeper today? This has been and still is a concern of mine. We just don't seem to make an oppositions keepers' afternoon difficult. I think I recall one late save he had to make. Is that good enough as the home side?
I thought we looked a little tired and fatigued towards the end. Which is a little concenring, given the fact we don't pay Sat-Tues-Sat, at this stage.
On to the positives...
Today was a much improved performance. I don't, by any means, think it was perfect... But for the first 20 minutes or so, we dominated, I thought. We got the ball wide and created a couple of chances. There was good movement in Daniels and Waite up top and good pace out wide with Gueyes, we also got the ball down and played some good football.
We however petered off towards the end of the half, worryingly allowing Frickley a number of free headers, as they came back into the game. I think had we been playing a good side, they would've gone in 1-0, if I'm honest.
Second half I thought we were decent. Obviously taking the lead, with a well worked goal. (Keeping the ball on the floor, it gets goals. How about that?).
I thought we looked good, again keeping the ball on the floor much more than we have done recently. We had good pace going forward and good width. I thought Waite did a good job holding the ball up and bringing in the midfield in, whenever he had possession.
However there were a few occasions when the midfield had the ball and seemingly panicked and 'hoofed' the ball up front with no real aim of purpose, this is a disappointing aspect of our game, still, when there is time for the players to take a touch and think about the pass they're going to play.
Overall. It's an improvement and a step in the right direction.
I thought Gueyes had another good game today, as a right wing back - a position which I assume he hasn't played too often - Although I have doubts defensively (he wasn't really tested today) going forward he looks threatening, most good play from the Yeltz came through him. The cross for our goal was sublime.
That was a brave move by John, assuming he played JMG as wing back to counteract their pace out wide, and it paid off, mostly.
As I said post Grantham, if we can see more of this from Gueyes, we have one fine player. We need more of the end product we've seen the past two games!
Special mention to Asa, who was monstrous at the back, again. He's on track for player of the season. He just reads the game so well.
All in all, a disappointing result but an improved and decent performance.
More of this, please.

I agree it was a better second half and there was more drive. I'm not sure we dominated them particularly though., if for the very reason that we created few clear cut chances apart from the one near the end.
Charlton was the MotM yet again which I think is indicative that the midfield and forwards are not catching the eye enough.

I only made it back from Worcester in time for 4.15. Apparently the first half was extremely poor from what I was told. I saw two very poor teams and a moment of excitement thanks to JMG towards the end.juanillo wrote:I agree it was a better second half and there was more drive. It's good Waite got his first goal, but the other strikers didn't look too promising from what I saw .
And there is absolutely no way that there were 301 there. If there were, then half must have left before I turned up
