Re: Game v Darlington
I can see both sides of this debate
This season we are away non league day so can not enjoy the promotion that gets.
We already have a number of fans whom Halesowen is a second team. If their first choice is not at home and we are they come and see us.
The club is trying something. If it brings in a few more over the coming seasons it will provide extra gate income plus other benefits through food and bar.
They may encourage others they know to do the same.
I understand why some people say why not everyone.
I have a season ticket for Halesowen and welcome the attempt to encourage other football fans to come to the Grove.

I'll give it a crack....Yeltz27 wrote:Can you explain to me how if you have a "commercial head" it makes sense? Why is what I am saying less "commerciallly" correct? Why ignore those I have mentioned in my previous post?
Option 1- Do nothing. Gate of c.500 (with perhaps 250 paying £10 on the day)?
Option 2- The club's offer. Maybe 50 people take up the offer (an extra £250 in gate money)
Option 3- £5 for everyone. Maybe 100 people take up the offer (an extra £500 on the gate), but the 250 that would have paid a tenner all pay £5 less, so you're actually making a net loss of £750.
There's loads of other factors you could roll in- money spent in the bar, big(ger) crowd atmosphere, something to talk about on social media, the moaners on the forum and their sense of injustice- but the main effort of the initiative is to attract new fans and, most importantly, you're doing it at a time when lots of keen supporters (of other clubs) are kicking their heels.
Does that make sense? I must admit I've guessed at most the numbers so anyone with a better knowledge than mine can tell me if I'm way off the mark??

I do understand 27's point. I do also think he's been a little flippant and over the top towards the club, though.piearce9 wrote:I'll give it a crack....Yeltz27 wrote:Can you explain to me how if you have a "commercial head" it makes sense? I like to see the club do whatever it can to attract any extra fans. This club is warming and friendly, it's a great place to watch football on a Saturday afternoon. Hopefully any new fans we attract with this offer will catch the bug.
I doubt they will, I guess by buying a season ticket at Baggies, Villa or Blues, they've made their mind up already and it'll be neigh on impossible to get them supporting the Yeltz on a regular basis. You can't knock the club in trying different things.
With your figures, I think you need to be mindful at how much of the gate is made up of concessions. I would have a good guess it's a lot more than you think!
As Yeltz fans I'm sure we want the best for the club and to see us continuously progress. I applaud any effort the club makes in trying to boost its attendance and get more fans through the gates. Ultimately this will only be achieved successfully and regularly by playing good football that brings in results. Which isn't happening now.

Thanks for doing that. I get your point about the figures but I still think it's wrong. If the club is trying to attract new fans, you need to attract them all, not just those with a ticket somewhere else. Especially when like I said yesterday, they are the ones that can afford to go to league games anyway.piearce9 wrote:I'll give it a crack....Yeltz27 wrote:Can you explain to me how if you have a "commercial head" it makes sense? The people that need encouraging to attend are those who are sitting in the Halesowen pubs on a Saturday afternoon or walking round the shops. This does nothing to encourage any of those people

Agree with this 10000%, lets start up a group of fans to flashmob the town centre on the morning of the 12th September for the FA CUP game. Flags, shirts, songs, shirts... leaflets etc. Fancy helping with that?

Re: Game v Darlington
I can understand the idea behind this in getting more people through the gate while there aren't any Premiership games on this weekend.
This will hopefully increase the numbers going through the turnstile and hence help the bank balance for HTFC.
I am more than happy to pay the full asking price of £10.My 11 year old gets in for free every week so I really can't complain.
As a WHUFC fan living in Halesowen for the past 20 years there is little point in having a season ticket so Up the Yeltz!!

Re: Game v Darlington
The goal for this initiative is to attract as many new fans as possible and encourage attendance at games from league season ticket holders. Many of the supporters who turn up every game have come from being supporters of league football clubs and have chosen to watch the Yeltz instead.
Its always a challenge getting the balance right between existing supporters and new ones.
I'd like to think the season ticket offer we did this year and the subsidised shirts that we have done for the last two years goes someway to give something back to the regular supporters.
Income is so important to non league clubs survival and we are no different. Theres no millionaire backer or huge corporate sponsor and I think the club would lose a lot of its appeal if we had one. Any new ways of getting income need to be explored.
We will never be able to keep all our fans and supporters happy but feedback is always useful for deciding whether to do initiative in the future. Please understand that this is all for the benefit of the club in the long term and future incentives will be available for all regular fans as mentioned earlier on.

Re: Game v Darlington
Just noticed that Hyde United have announced the same offer for their game this weekend.
