The Kettle's Off
To Sutton.

A bad miss IMO, he offered us something a bit different, a bit more of the old fashioned "rugged" style center half to give us some rough and tumble when necessary.
However, he's not featured since Asa came back, so it's an understandable decision on his part.

If Tesfa's still on the books, we may see more of him now. And I suspect Brags could do a job as one of a back three.

I really like Joel as a player, I thought he was very, very unlucky to find himself out of the team and has never let us down. Best of luck to him at Sutton Coldfield.

I think Forde would be more likely to drop back if need be... When there has been an injury to one of the CB's and they're receiving treatment he's usually the one to fill in.YeltzDoc wrote:If Tesfa's still on the books, we may see more of him now. Re: The Kettle's Off
I did wonder whether Fordey's, let's say "tenacity", would make him a candidate. But in my virtual-Yeltz-manager thoughts, I deemed him, like his temper, a bit short.
Not that I'd tell him, mind...
He seems to be a key player for us and in the last few games that I've seen, he's been immense - the protection that he gives to the back three is superb.
However, I suspect that this is all just the sort of conjecture that the forum is designed for and John and his team will have a solution in hand - he likes a "nill" above anything, and Kev stated in the (excellent) video this week that it's the first thing we look for.
My vote is that we have a genetic lab somewhere developing an 8 foot high version of Andy Pearce.

Re: The Kettle's Off
This is a loss for us. Joel is / was a very good player at this level. Maybe his thinking is that he’ll be playing in this league next season with Sutton?
I still feel he would have a lot to offer us for the remainder of the season and well in to the next few seasons. I know chances for him have been limited with Asa playing at centre back, but surely a chance to gain his place back would have just been around the corner.
Regardless I wish Joel the best for the future and hope to see him back at the Grove soon, either re-joining us or with Sutton after a successful end to their season.
Thanks for your hard work Joel!

Re: The Kettle's Off
Cant help but feel that this is the wrong move for Joel bit its obviously up to him... Mathematically Sutton (with an average crowd of 145) are second but there are lots of teams with games in hand on them.
Our Centre backs this season, (41 games played)
Asa - 21 Starts
Joel - 25 Starts
Curtis - 41 Starts (Some from Midfield)
Joe 31 - Starts
He has an important part to play in the side. Including his 25 starts he has come off the bench 5 times so has featured in nearly 75% of our games.
Saying all this I trust John to have a replacement lined up and ready to go.

Re: The Kettle's off
Must say surprise to say the least, that Joel Kettle has decided to leave HTFC for Sutton Coldfield.
Okay he's been unfortunate not holding a regular place. but are we running the risk of possibly going a little
light at the back defender wise (always seen Joel as an old fashion centre back). Yes we have Asa playing across the backline(lets hope he can give us a couple more seasons) and the graft of Forde, but should injuries suddenly appear, do we then have to reshuffle the back. Still a lot of hard games to come which will define where we will really be in our first season in this league. Surely players like Joel are for the future seasons to come, could not Joel have been loaned to them, but obviously his choice, all the very best to Joel though, hope he can return at some stage.
Don't we need to be just a little careful in respect of letting players go, what happen to possible dual registration in his case,
In regards to the play offs nice idea, but surely to big a jump for us at this stage be careful what you wish for to soon, finance wise l gather we are close to being in the black, lets keep it that way, we will need at least two/three season in the NPL, before we look to move to the next level.
Yes it would be good to see how far we could go should the situation arise, l am sure this would give the Yeltzs men and women more to shout about. always a Yeltzs supporter, come ye Yeltzzzzzzs just beautiful

Re: The Kettle's Off
Its very difficult for clubs at our level to keep hold of players who might not be in the starting line up. They know they will be able to get weekly football elsewhere and as they are really only playing for the love of it at this level, many will move on. Its not like the prima donnas who will sit on the bench every week because they do not want to lose their megabucks.
