From HH
Latest Skelmersdale United 1 Sargeant own goal 73rd Halesowen Town 0. Unbelievable. We'll do well now. He couldn't do anything about it, Green smashed a clearance off the line right at him and it rebounded in

What a result. With that never say die attitude this could be one hell of a season. Congratulations and roll on Tuesday.

Hardworking, deserved point according to HH.
Did we have a goal disallowed or not allowed? Difficult to tell from the Twitter-ese.

Great result after a hard luck setback. I bet Rob was dishing out bear hugs all round.

Re: Skelmersdale
Great point. Should have been three but for some very poor officiating.
Goal ruled out despite being a good foot over the line.
Their goal was a bit fortuitous, this after a blatant foul on Christie around the half way line.
Diabolical officiating aside, a draw seemed a fair result between two evenly matched sides.
Forde was my man of the match.

Confucius (or was it Brian Clough or Bill Shankly) say, pressure always on the home team in first game of the season. Applicable to Premiership today too......

Re: Skelmersdale
Just got back via John C's limo (Or as we now call it, "The managers official season sponsor 2014/2015")
A really great battling result. We thoroughly deserved to get a point out of the game. Their goal was very lucky one of those freaky goals you see on an end of season bloopers DVD. Seargeant punched, they put it back in Tilt (Or may have been Green) hoofed it clear for it to hit the retreating keeper and drop in the net. We should have equalised earlier when Christie's shot was a yard over the line but the linesman didn't give it. The goal at the end was just reward for our efforts.
They were a very good side who moved the ball around really well and very quickly. At every opportunity they were looking at taking throw ins, free kicks etc quickly and for 20 minutes we looked like we were still on the M6. Eventually we got up to speed with the game and Curtis probably had the best chance to open the scoring when he headed over from a corner. At half time it was 0-0 and we knew at this point a draw would be a great reward. For all their quality possession though I can't recall Seargeant making a save as was the resilient defending of the usual suspects!
In the second half they upped it a gear again and with the help of some abysmal refereeing we were struggling to hold on. Credit to Sarge again for making two really good saves to keep them out. They, we should have equalised when the ball went over the line but we kept plugging away and eventually Bragoli came up with a sublime lob from the edge of the area through a crowd of players to earn us a much deserved point.
Lot's and lot's of positives to take from today I feel, but special mention for Aaron Forde who was an absolute beast in the middle of the pitch for us and was very unfortunate to pick up a booking for actually being fouled!
Looking forward to Tuesday, and apologies for not updating here but the wifi was as bad as the officials!

No all the players were on the coach so no one stuck on motorway.YeltzDoc wrote:
Maybe half the team are still stuck on the M6?
Griffiths has an injury, Lait and Bowen not there.
We started I think a little nervous for about 10 - 15 mins then we settled in and had the best chances first half. Tilts header just over the bar landing on the roof of the net.
Their goal after pressure no one's fault a clearance off the line hit the returning keeper and into the goal.
Sarg had pulled off a couple of cracking saves earlier.
A clear equaliser was not give by either official (a couple of their fans behind the goal agreed it was in) and we had to battle. They had a player sent off for a second yellow.
All his time wasting and other of their players probably added to the time.
We got a deserved equaliser and boy were our players happy. The faces on their players when they came off you would have thought they had lost.
A few of them have an alternative career watch out for them when ever Tom Daley is DIVING on the T.V.
If they had actually tried to stay on their feet and play football instead of footfall they would have done better.
It was a nice ground, short on parking, beer o.k., food just acceptable (no chips) and some friendly people.
One chap told us helpfully where to stick our flags up. Another wished us all the best at the end of the game.
An enjoyable day out as we had already seen about M6 north closed and took the main road route.
No points would have been an injustice, three points was possible, accept a point and you may say on the balance of play maybe a fair result.

Re: Skelmersdale
Some good summaries above.
That could be a big point for us today, they were a decent, tough side who I wouldn't be surprised if they were nearer the top than the bottom. After the tricky opening 20 minutes we had a 15 minute spell where we could of been in front and the first half overall was fairly even.
Second half they were the better side and Sarge made 2 fantastic saves. The scousers were annoying and didn't contribute to getting behind their team, merely whining at every opportunity.
Their goal was just one of them that happen once or twice a season, a bit calamitous but one of those things.
The way we kept going was fantastic especially against a referee and a linesmen who decided to make it 13 v 11.
Forde got booked when HE should have had a free kick himself, Christie scored a perfectly good goal at least a foot over the line which wasn't given, much to our annoyance, our goal was a quality placed lob if you like from Bragoli, a touch of class as it was pointless blasting it with a packed box. Big relief, justice done and would have been very harsh not to come way from there with nothing.
Good on the players for coming over and applauding us, Bragoli took the time to have a chat with a few of us too. Top day, great team spirit. The future is bright. Good luck boys on Tuesday !
