This season.

Post by dazzlingdazza » 01 May 2014, 12:42

Over the course of next few weeks I am going to try and keep things nice and busy on here with stuff to talk about.

So we will start with :-

Best goal scored this season by a yeltzman.

Most important goal.

Best defensive performance.

Best goalkeeper performance.

Your best day/night (other than Belper)

I will answer the rest later but my answer to 'Best goal scored this season by a yeltzman.' would be Johnny Stokes at Rainworth. 8)

Best goal scored this season by a yeltzman.
Ben Haseley's lob from 20 plus yards, early on in the season. Can't recall who against, mind.
Also he scored a very similar if slightly less spectacular effort the weekend before.
Mentions to Macca's volley against Belper at home, Tonksy's against Loughborough and Joe Hull's
20 yard volley at Mickleover. Opposite foot crashed in off the bar. Was an important goal too given the scenario of the game and the season. Just felt as though the game change with that goal.
Aaron Griffiths scored a couple of great volleys away at Market Drayton, the second of which was a great technique.

Most important goal.
Tom Tonky's goal late on against Loughborough, can't be anything else can it?

Best defensive performance.
Going for Coalville away. We dominated the first 20/25 minutes. Got that vital goal and defended, to a man, valiantly. They had their chances, but ultimately they wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now!

The two 1-0's at the plastic pitch in Sutton also spring to mind.

You've got to say though, all season the back four of Green (played every single minute this season, by the way) Hull, Tilt and Asa / Meacham have been outstanding.

We had a run of 5 clean sheets in a row not long ago, including that win at Coalvile and the win at home to Leek as well as another run earlier in the season where we managed 4 clean sheets in a row. It's certainly been our strength this season.

Best goalkeeper performance. Mat Seargent at Goole away. Made a couple of good saves first half and a couple of outstanding saves second half including tipping a late effort onto the bar. Earned us a valuable away point (in hindsight).

Your best day/night (other than Belper) I enjoyed the time away at Marske. Went up on the players coach the Friday night had a couple in the bar when we got there about 11ish at night...then started around 12ish the following morning. I remember waking up at the Grove post match with a massive head ache. Shame about the result but a really good weekend!

Special mentions to the pubs / clubs at Shefield and Mickleover. Some cracking ales. The worst has got to be Goole away, the less said about that the better. As AV said, if a bomb hit it, it would cause £10's of thousands of improvements!

But as you say, nothing is a patch on last weekend. Magic stuff.

Best goal. As you said Haseleys lob was it against Tipton in the FA Cup ?

Most important. Has to be Tonky's against Loughborough, though you could argue had we not won at Coalville and at home against Leek we wouldn't have reeled the leaders in.

Best defensive performance. Yeah I think I have to agree Coalville away we were solid against an avalanche as you would expect from a team wanting to stay top.

Best goalkeeper display. Can only comment on the games I have seen, Matt was really good against Leek at home and Coalville away again, he had a run where as a defensive unit we didn't look like conceding then we conceded 4 at home to Belper !

Best day/night. Enjoyed Marske about from the few idiots, can't beat Belper for obvious reasons, but enjoyed Mickleover, Sheffield and Carlton too, oh and Bedworth away as I won on the golden goal !

Guesty- you're getting old son! It was last season I pulled at Rainworth!

Unfortunately, she wasn't there this season!
