The only club we have beaten 7-2, including the memorable Paul Hunter overhead kick, and lost 2-7 although the latter was in their Spencer days. They were notable for their ground at one time having a crowd painting down the one side which fascinated Jimmy “it’s a funny old game Saint” Greaves

Brilliant, as ever,Chas!
I remember the 7 - 2 with Paul Hunter's fantastic effort and the painted on crowd. Brilliant 👏 The Banbury Spencer days are perhaps more like your memory span! 😀
More sadly, I believe that Aaron Cornwall (?) broke his leg against them at our place. The most horrible football injury I've ever seen - I don't think he ever played again. Hope I'm wrong in that.

It was a shocking injury!! Was Shane Paul I think! Tricky winger as well, and I don’t think he did play again.

This extract from DJ’s report tells the sickening story

British Gas Business Football League - Premier Division – Saturday, 1st March 2008
Halesowen Town 1 Banbury United 2
Halesowen missed an opportunity to go top of the table after losing focus with their promotion charge dented following a sickening badly broken leg to Shane Paul and two goals from Banbury’s Nicky Gordon.
The game was overshadowed when Paul suffered a double fracture of his leg after an over-the-ball challenge from Greg Williams just two minutes into the game. Paul lay motionless in agony surrounded by a crowd of attendants before finally being taken away by ambulance to Russells Hall Hospital. The severe injury caused a lengthy delay of 25 minutes and whilst there appeared no obvious intent, the challenge was clearly a dangerous one. Culprit Williams only received a yellow card but was so distraught by the incident that he was unable to continue and was immediately

I read in their online matchday digital programme is included a “STAT ATTACK” . After the 7-2 win Bob Pepper, our pa announcer at that time, had a notable stat attack .
