Dr. Jones

Post by wednesburystokie » 27 Mar 2017, 17:56

Been informed this afternoon of the sad passing of ex Club Doctor Doc Jones.

The club is arranging a minutes silence at Saturdays game against Skelmersdale.

Indeed, very sad news.
Always had time for a chat with people and always seemed to remember their names!
God Bless.

Excuse my ignorance I'm sure somebody will correct me if it's the wrong person but is this Geoff Jones? The physio with the grey hair who was physio when I started coming to the club if so I remember him very well seeing him treat players et cetera I also remember him because he had the same name as my grandad. A sad loss.

Geoff Jones was a different, younger physio. Doc Jones was the Club Doctor for a long time and is probably the one you remember with the grey hair, Chris.
Doc had recently gone into Lapal House where he passed away at lunchtime today.
RIP Doc

Thanks Chas in all likelihood I remember both people but thought that one person was one and the same where in fact there were two.

The Doc, as he was known by one and all, was I believe Dr Huw Jones who was our club Doctor for many years and continued following the team long after his retirement from the post.
A true gentleman who travelled the country watching Halesowen often under his own steam (not the club coach) with his mate and near neighbour, Jack Bennett.
I've seen the pair of them in many a far flung place over the years. Not seen Jack for a bit - I hope he's OK, although no doubt saddened by today's news.

RIP The Doc

Dr Herbert Jones I think Westy and I'm not sure about being Welsh although there's some connection with Wales. Some Scottish connections too, he did his medical qualifications at Edinburgh and a couple of years ago I brought him back a photo of where he studied. His brother had a senior financial position at the Faslane base. Doc always had a quality drop of Scotch if you called on him.

Doc always produced a 'special' bottle of scotch on the team coach which inevitably meant we then had to share a taxi back to Cradley ... many a Sunday lost in those days ...great bloke who had a passion for the Yeltz ...Rip Doc :-(

Colin has just been on the phone, Doc Jones's family are in the area so it has been agreed that the minutes silence will take place at tonight's game with them in attendance.
