"The bottom line is Halesowen Town Football Club is not far off being 150 years old, we are currently in the Northern Premier League, in the club's colourful history this is the highest level we have ever competed in."

That is untrue

You're right 27. From 1990 until 2001 we were in the Southern League Premier division which was one division below the Conference (now National League Premier Division). We always did well in it as well. When we finished 2nd to Rushden we were the second best team outside the Conference, currently about 100 teams are closer to that division than we are. Quite a difference!!!!

Certainly! A look at the teams that made up the Northern & Southern Premiers in those days shows how strong they were.

Slightly crazy thing about the "highest ever" quote is that Matty mentions just missing out on the Conference himself.

In any case, I enjoyed the interview. Always good to hear what the management think, and to hear their side of the story. It's never going to be a Paxman-style grilling, and I'm not sure what value that would be anyway.

Look forward to the next one.

I'm not entirely sure what some folks are expecting here. The answers as honest as you'll get and the questions dont skirt round some of the issues that are being spoke about on here. However...

Im not sure " By the way some people want John Hill out on his ear, how do you feel about that?" would ever be a fair question nor would " Why have we got no money?" "Why are we not performing?".
Who in their right mind would ever answer questions like that as an employee of anywhere in public? It strikes me whatever anyone does, its criticised and unfairly imho. For example Yeltz tv' s scaffolding. No-one but no-one wants us struggling. But sometimes its how it is. Im no happy clapper but bloody hell, give it a rest. 16 years ago we were much better....16 years ago I was better. I cant change it either. I also made several mistakes in my time. Thankfullly no-one harangued me endlessly for it.

On a side note I've started booing the woman at Nisa in Colley Gate, when she doesn't serve me to my satisfaction. I also booed once when I felt i'd been short changed. And gave her some grief as Mangy's was better many years ago...(its a Gater reference) ;)

>:D...... MyvTongue is firmly in cheek and this is not aimed at anyone in particular. Honest!. Life is far toooooo short. You win some, you lose some.

The answers are not 'as honest as you will get' though if he said the quote I quoted previously. I've heard it from various people that this is the highest level we've ever been at, and as has been pointed out by those that know, it isn't. It isn't very difficult for the interviewer to say 'Matt, Halesowen have played at step 2, and this is step 3'. I don't think that would be too unreasonable

No. But I'd say personally its an error neither were aware of. I dont beleive its an honesty issue. Why leave a "dishonest" answer in, that can and has been corrected? Over to the interviewer to clarify....

And then get roasted for not knowing his facts. Stones...ready. Burning torches.....ready.
;) ;D

Yes of course it was probably a mistake. But it's easy to be sceptical when we know people believe that this is the highest level we have ever played at. That could possibly be being used to back up what a great job they think they are doing, when the reality is quite different

Possibly. But Ive yet to meet anyone who thinks the bottom end of the table is a great job, without a very good reason to. For example West Brom's goal of surving a Premier league season, many moons ago, to at least have half a chance of building on it. Id say some National League clubs immediate goal on promotion is to survive the Football league and build. Unless theyre backed to the tune of hundreds of thousands.
Slightly different circumstances but ultimately they dont always have the funds and go and sign players for large sums. So you rely on teamwork to get through. Whatever you may think of JH and MC, and I remain open minded, lets not forget that they have had to completely rebuild and beg steal and borrow players. And Ive yet to see this team, whatever faults there may be, not fight for each other at least.
