Re: Harborough Updates
lutters, light hearted suggestion
Didn't we have a collection a good few years ago in an attempt to sign that Kim bloke , ah how Green was my valley, centre forward from , I think ,atherstone. He always scored against us which was another reason to sign him, but he changed his mind and stopped with the stoners. ( no doubt someone will correct me }

OK, Ken, I'll come clean - it was a serious suggestion of mine to alleviate the problem that is: "we haven't got a decent centre forward/striker/ bloke who is big and scores goals!"KenR wrote: ↑25 Sep 2024, 11:32lutters, light hearted suggestionDidn't we have a collection a good few years ago in an attempt to sign that Kim bloke , ah how Green was my valley, centre forward from , I think ,atherstone. Lutters, in this case, I don't know who the devil is for sure, but I agree with you totally.

Re: Harborough Updates
The frequent shout from the dugout last night was ‘dont keep dropping deep ‘ at one point Ryan Wynter came over during a break in play and said to the others ‘ lads you’ve got to help us’ my point is the reason we kept dropping deep is because the ball kept coming straight back either through poor passing or just hoofs up the pitch with no direction. There is no pattern of play a big centre forward who knows the job would take some of the pressure off as long as he isn’t chasing lost causes all game .lutleyyeltz wrote: ↑25 Sep 2024, 12:45OK, Ken, I'll come clean - it was a serious suggestion of mine to alleviate the problem that is: "we haven't got a decent centre forward/striker/ bloke who is big and scores goals!"KenR wrote: ↑25 Sep 2024, 11:32lutters, light hearted suggestionDidn't we have a collection a good few years ago in an attempt to sign that Kim bloke , ah how Green was my valley, centre forward from , I think ,atherstone. Re: Harborough Updates
There just wasn't any chance of an out ball for about the last 15 or 20 minutes. Everybody getting dragged back to the penalty box. If they were INSTRUCTED to leave one or even two upfield the opposition would have to leave two or even three back or else a counter attack would lead to a certain goal. It's ok to defend like that when they throw all 11 forward in the last ditch cavalry charge but certainly not for as long as we did. Ok, we got away with it last night but I fear we wouldn't most games.

I agree with all the comments above. We're crying out for a target man type of player (and if he can score goals, that would be a nice bonus) but, as I said after the Hitchin game, I don't think the budget is there. Maybe the whip-round is a good idea, after all?

Re: Harborough Updates
An observation, not pertaining to the game, was the brightness of the screen on The Harry Rudge Stand.
A very welcome, modern addition to the infrastructure of The Grove.
However, it tended to affect viewing for some spectators on the opposite terracing.
It was so bright that if one was placed at each corner of the ground there would be no need for floodlights.
Just a personal viewpoint, of course.

Re: Harborough Updates
Well, that was positive and a step in the right direction. The line-up was the correct call from Penn. If Spain can win a couple of Euro's and a World Cup without a recognised striker in the starting XI then it certainly won't do us any harm!
The performance wasn't perfect but it was improved. Harborough looked a very tidy side and arguably did enough to earn at least a draw. What I was impressed with was the way the players bounced back, showed good intensity, and work rate throughout. That being said, I don't feel comfortable having to praise such qualities. What we saw was much better than the inept and pathetic display on Saturday, but it really should be the bare minimum we see from the players. It was good to see all the same.
Despite all the doom & gloom, moaning, and the fact we don't have a recognised striker at the club, we somehow sit just two points off the top of the table. It can't be all bad. It just doesn't feel like it's been a successful start, despite how the league table looks. One thing is for certain - I wouldn't swap places with Bromsgrove! I think we're more than fine with Penn.
