We played some good stuff today at times, did lack that killer instinct, and this is not just sour grapes but I can quite honestly say the referee was an absolute disgrace, 1-0 down we had a stonewall penalty not even considered. Every time the ball was played forward we were either obstructed, knocked off, and any other adjective you can think of to stop us getting the ball though illegally !

I didn't think we even deserved to lose let alone 3-0 ! Though we did get caught on the counter attack pushing to get back in the game which I did admire rather than not going for it. I don't see a lot wrong with our play at all some really nice 1 touch football and although it didn't produce the goods today, that was down to playing against 12 men, the referee for me wouldn't have looked out of place in a Charlie Chaplin film !

1st half did not deserve to be 1 0 down, Ben hit upright and their keeper pulled off a class save.
Chase 1 shot 1 goal.

Second half we only had 1 shot not good enough.

Last time we played with a central defender as an attacker was Cunnington era no money for players Mark Smith up front. Why oh why now?

Ref was appauling a two handed shove first half only deserving of a free kick (no one else near the play).
Second half they could just barge us off the ball every time and ref chatty smiley with their players!

Deserved something today, we were the better team for long periods and the only critisism is we just aren't strong enough at times. At 1-0 and having a good period in the game the ref totally ignores a nailed on penalty, shortly after ignores a 2 handed shove on our player near the halfway line, they get the ball push forward and score, game over!

I can take losing to a better team but cannot stand being cheated and that is exactly what happened today.

Thought Gav Winsper had a decent game, he had to put up with a lot of provacation but handled himself well. some stunning saves by Paul Evans again, Ben worked hard as usual but nothing just dropped right for him. Another good turn out by the Yeltz faithful.

Last time Gav played up front was against Charlton in the league cup. He came on as sub, scored, held it up , and played realy well. So I can understand the bosses thinking there

doesn`t seem that the refs in this league want to encourage `footballing`teams this is about the 3rd match in the last few weeks where the strong arm tactics has been allowed (encouraged even!) to carry on, sad to say that until we get into a higher league we may have to get a few `donkeys`into our team and, as teams do to us, `stop the other team playing` and learn, as other teams have, that you can get away with so much that it becomes part of the game plan..shame for football though

I was just thinking what to write about yesterdays game, and you summed up my feelings perfectly.
This is not a footballing league, and that is certainly encouraged by the referees.
Fair play to Chasetown, as they sussed out this inept official from the start, and employed 'stop at all costs' tactics, then hit us on the break with clinical effect. Not surprising therefore that two of these breaks came directly from unpunished fouls at the other end of the pitch, both of which would have aroused the passions of the Match of the Day panels !!!
It can all be summed up by a couple of Villa chaps standing by us who were neutrals from the Chasetown area who told us as we were leaving that "Chasetown may have won, but we know who we would rather watch"
Regretfully gentlemen if you want to watch football don't bother with this league !!!

This is a double-edged sword:
We could get by on principles because we want to play 'nice' football and not hack everything that moves... in an ideal world.

This is the Evo-Stik Northern Division 1 South, and although there can be pretty football at times, there ain't and if it's about survival down these here divisions then you're going to have to have someone who can do some, erm, "industrial" & "uneconomic" tackling, and more than one personnel too.

Harsh and no doubt the purists and management won't like it, but you have to be realistic and if it's for the better of the club (and eventually financial) climbing up the league with the simply appalling officials as of late (and why not take advantage of their ineptness? Respect the referee?! Balls, the referee should respect the players, especially how the ref was last Saturday against Frigg Town), someone argue with me why the hell not? :-\

*I'm editing this with the following for clarification:

I'm not condoning dirty play nor someone to leave their foot in; I'm just thinking of the benefit of HTFC (as always) if we had more no-nonsense tackling players

Its a shame we just can't rely on the official's to do there job. Some of the refs we've had lately should of give up in the 80s

Digressing slightly onto the ref issues lately, either we're a typical footy club moaning about poor refs or we've been really, REALLY unlucky as of late - anything else there are huge issues that the FA will have to action.

One question I ask myself - what is the motivation for an official to run a game at this level because it surely isn't financial and I'm not naive enough to think that they do it 'for the love of the game' - hopefully it's not an 'if I don't do it nobody else will' attitude.

Hmmmm??? ???

I spoke to a few of the regulars behind the dug-out at the Brigg game and the opinion was that what we lacked was an "enforcer."
When we had the likes of Pope, Pierrepoint, Williams and Amos et al, we gave as good as we got and put a certain amount of fear into opponents who tried to rough up our ball-players.
We could certainly do with someone of that ilk, right now.
