For what it’s worth I think playing the last 15 for the pint was the right call.
If we had pushed forward too much with tired legs you would
always get caught on the break

Unbelievably, I remembered my way to The Grove.

Nowhere near as much traffic, foot or vehicular, as expected, and both the journey down, via Westwood Ho!(me), and then the one back up the road and across The Rec were managed comfortably in time for the usual position (scepticism) to be taken up before KO.

More preliminaries than the FA Cup, the Boys of '85 greeted as the heroes that they are, a rousing minute's applause for a lost comrade of a similar era, and Platty lauded as, "Our highest ever goalkeeper" according to the tannoy.
(It must be remembered that Evran only ever played up front).

You know how some players become better when not playing, due to a sort of mis-felt nostalgia? Yeah, well the opposite of that ensued.
Blood and thunder, thud and blunder.
Some on here, and on the bench, said that it was a great advert, but I'm not sure what for. Neckache maybe.

Still, plenty of action in the crowd. Coat on, coat off, Sou'wester off, factor 50 on. I think I had trench foot, frostbite and sunburn by Sports Report.
A worse injury over by "Harry's" though, as a spectator intercepted another wellying wang right on the bonce. But, our hero took it (literally) on the chin and even managed a cheery double-thumbs-up to the crowd. His funeral's Tuesday...

Somewhere amid the hoofage, the Bucks were trending upwards and probably deserved the goal, it had been coming but few had "backheel" on their bingo card. Grrr.

So, halftime came and went, as did more layers of Low Alpine. My lovely suede schmutter was going to survive! (A note to the Blackheath branch, it's not a velvet smoking jacket. Honestly, unless it's a Stoney, people think Quentin Crisp's rocked up).

We turned around, as did the weather, and, whisper it, so did the momentum. Someone had unloaded the Steinway from Mini's back, and he "twisted and turned" (BCR fans), clipped it across and KD rose, might-salmon-Sean-Flynn like at the back stick and nodded in. Hoorah!
And we looked good. For at least 30 mins the Salopians had no answer to their former exclave's exploits, so surely?
But no.

It darkened, dropped, dripped then drowned-out any chances of a late winner to give us rinsed and repeat. The mathematically literate amongst the near-3000 crowd had clocked that it meant a trip to Thomas Telford's town Tuesday-week. (OK, Wednesday, but, you know, alliteration).

Full-time. Full-torrent. Tucked the elderly under a tree and charged back to Islington, cursing my sartorial choices and wondering what the return would bring, and whether I still had that discount voucher for the dry-cleaners.

Having made one match on the trot, of course, I'm away for the semi, but similar circumstances lead to the "Eldon Maquemba Wonder Goal"TM Selfie and Insult's tap-in two years ago. Nailed-on then, deffo.
See you a week Monday. But maybe only if you're out drinking in Harrogate.

How's about we ran our feckin socks off yesterday and were knackered by 80 minutes and we had 24 hours less rest than they did (plus 5 hours each way on a coach). Don't let that get in the way of making things up though!
So why not make the subs? None of Wragg, Hickman, Birch, or Cameron started at Leiston. 83rd minute was the first change.

It was just a bit Alan Ball for me. Draw or loss was exactly the same outcome, nobody really seemed to clock this, and regardless of weary legs/minds there was no sign that we wanted to gamble.

And before anyone says it, no, Telford aren't dropping points to Royston on the final day. :D
