Pretty poor fare in blustery difficult conditions lit up by a sublime injury time free kick from Conner Tee. We had a couple of earlier chances but little else to be fair and I thought they'd mugged us when they rattled the bar with minutes left. Yet leaving the ground I felt even happier than when we drubbed Barwell last week. To grind out wins in drab affairs is the backbone of a successful side, and I feel there is more yet to come from us. Well done lads. Merry Christmas.

I fully endorse that, Andy.

I thought we were brighter second half as I said. I did wonder if the wind had some baring, but Im not sure. I just didnt think we looked fired up and so many misplaced passes. Second half we looked more up for it. Pleased to get that win. We do need another striker, although Ceesay is playing well. I said earlier no one was shining. In hindsight, I thought Mitchell was consistant and looking to drive forward.
Finally a word on the travelling contingent. Not all, but a large minority of absolute tools. Spent all game shouting abuse at somebody/anybody. Enraged when their players hit the deck in nothing tackles. Im not sure Id even call it support.

100% agree
Very poor quality from both teams. Give them the benefit though with the wind.
Game settled by an excellent free kick, would love to see it from behind the goal.
Thought we really missed Ponts today and what be bought to us.

Well played lads ;D

Southern League Premier Central – Saturday, 21st December 2024

Halesowen Town 2 Redditch United 1

Conor Tee’s sensational strike from an added time free-kick consolidated second spot and moved Halesowen to within a point of the top of the table, writes DJ.

Although Tee won the man of the match, both Musa Ceesay and Josh Smile also put in notably impressive performances for the Yeltz. Jamie Willets made his Halesowen debut as Ceesay and Ryan Wollacott lined up against their former club in the fourth meeting between the sides this season.

Manager Russ Penn noted “to win in that style and quality is what football is all about. Josh Smile did excellently to win the free-kick, driving forward - Conor Tee was my man of the match today.” Looking forward to the rest of the Christmas programme, Penn observed “they’re all challenges, with injuries and suspensions it’s the time of year to rotate the squad and prepare as well as you can, but we have a good energy about the place – long may it continue.”

Johnny Johnston blazed a good early chance over the bar down the left for Redditch in the 4th minute before two goals soon followed within 50 seconds of each other. Tee’s 25-yard free-kick was deflected away by the Reds’ defensive wall but former Reds’ defender Ryan WOLLACOTT attacked the ball to power his header into the net from Tee’s resulting 12th minute corner to put Halesowen ahead.

But Redditch levelled less than a minute later when Wollacott couldn’t clear Jack Kelly’s cross from under his feet allowing JOHNSTON to bury the loose ball past goalkeeper Dan Platt for a 13th minute equaliser.

As the lively start continued, Reece Michell’s 15th minute cross was turned away by goalkeeper Oliver Taylor and a beautiful 32nd minute through ball from Halesowen captain Josh Smile dissected the Redditch defence to find McKauley Manning, but he failed to control the ball in the penalty area. Towards the break Tee’s stooping header fell just past the post from Manning’s cross and Musa Ceesay fired a long range shot at Taylor.

The Yeltz made a good start to the second period with several shots blocked and Tee’s 51st minute free-kick then caused havoc as the Reds hacked clear in their own box before Platt did well to hang onto Marvellous Onabirekhanien’s 57th minute effort at the other end.

The resolute Reds managed to keep the Yeltz at bay for most of the second period and it was a brilliant 61st minute save by Taylor from Manning and then a goalmouth scramble from the following corner - with the ball cleared off the line - that prevented the hosts from going ahead again. Redditch then escaped again when a good 82nd minute block denied Tee in front of goal after Kieren Donnelly squared across the penalty area.

But Redditch almost snatched all three points in the 87th minute when George Burroughs struck the crossbar after Platt pushed away a high ball swung over from a second Redditch corner.

However, Smile was then fouled on a brilliant run forward and TEE’s superb strike directly from the 22 yard free-kick found the net to the left of helpless goalkeeper Taylor and won the contest for Halesowen in the fourth minute of added time.

Definitely agree with the posts about KD being isolated. Just having one of three midfielders joining him sporadically didn't cut it. I'm sure though Mr Penn has that one covered. ;)

A great performance, and a deserved three points. Tee has been outstanding these last few weeks and it was some finish for the winner.

Amazingly we’ve found some way to score late in games this season, whereas last campaign we lost so many points late on.

Great start to a very busy few weeks. Oh, and results all went out elsewhere today too. Superb.
