Re: Hednesford Updates
I felt that Halesowen didn't deserve to be the losing side today. Plenty of endeavor and creativity producing lots of chances. There were a couple of times, during the second half, where there was no width and player positioning to exploit that space, but that's me being critical and taking nothing away from that performance. As already has been said captain McCone was immense, his distribution, tackling and never say die attitude rubbed off on the rest of the team culminating with the win. Agree with whoever said the balance of the team looked/was better............onwards!

I think it speaks volumes about how far this club has come in 12 months when we can go away to a team at a higher level, outbattle them and win, but we are still slightly critical....and we are one of the few sides in the whole Southern League still left in the competition

Re: Hednesford Updates
That was a very good ‘win’ and cool heads on the penalties.
Let’s hope for a home draw as in the 3rd qualifying round, the regionalisation becomes north and south, assuming they follow last year’s split at the same round.
So a midweek trip for example to Blyth, Darlington, Spennymoor, Marske or South Shields would certainly not be ideal (but maybe for some).
If the FA keep it more regional in view of the current restrictions and to assist midweek travel, then that would be more sensible, in which case we would probably play one of these teams:
Boston United
Alfreton Town
Tamworth
Telford United
Alvechurch
Nantwich Town
Mickleover Sports
Stafford Rangers
Matlock Town
Banbury United
Chester
Nuneaton Borough
Ilkeston Town

Re: Hednesford Updates
Fantastic day yesterday. Thought we were back to our normal selves especially in the second half. Good to see Bowen back in the side. McCone was a colossus at the back and fair play to big Brad Catlow for stepping up and saving the penalty to see us through.
Take nothing away from Hednesford though I thought they were a good side and had enough chances themselves to arguably win it, particularly at the death too.
I don’t think there was a lot between the two teams if I’m honest but think we slightly edged it and deserved to go through.
As mentioned sadly the win was marred slightly by a couple of idiotic kids who thought it was a good idea to throw a flare onto the pitch and mouth off at the stewards. Dom our welfare officer was not impressed and safe to say I don’t think they will be welcome down The Grove again and rightly so.
Home tie next round for a change please...

Re: Hednesford Updates
Just a late post to acknowledge how good Catlow was on Saturday.
I've been critical of him in the past, but that was easily his best game for us. More of this, please!
