FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Draw

Saturday 23rd November 2019

HALESOWEN TOWN v Gateshead

Home draw again and a good test for us.........

We're not getting much luck with the draw this season. Another tough home tie against a side who probably won't bring too many fans, given the distance.

It could be worse, I guess.

Actually I think the draws have been ok this season.
With 22 National League North sides entering at this stage and with just 18 ties in the northern section, then a match against one of them was quite likely and it's a home tie.

At least I don't think it will be as bad as the last time we faced a team from the north east...the 8-2 drubbing at Spennymoor at the same stage of the Trophy last season.

We took the lead in that one, from memory!

Like a said it could be worse. Them lot down the road always seem to get much more favourable draws than us, or is that me being a little bias?

Certainly in terms of gate numbers would expect South Shields to bring many more from fans from the NE to the West Mids than Gateshead would.

I seem to remember facing the Head before in some cup competition. Did n't we draw at their place but got thrashed at home in the replay.

We lost 2-0 in the Trophy up in Gateshead in 2014. It was bloody freezing and a very strange atmosphere in their giant athletics stadium.

I’m looking forward to be able to make the replay though :)

I seem to have the same sort of memory as well. I'm sure someone from that neck of the woods came here and scored about 4 in something. I'm sure they played in black and white as well. Probably dreamt it.... ::)

We were never going to get a nice easy tie at this point of the competition. The good news it’s at home and, even though they are step 2, we have nothing to fear.

At worst, we bow out with no shame in our cup exploits. We’ve progressed through 3 rounds in the Cup and 4 rounds in the Trophy and that’s a great return. Nothing to lose now.

Andre, those are my recollections as well, sure it was gateshead. I think we drew 0-0 at their place and got whoped 4 - 0 at the Grove and i also think they played in white. Have to ask the oracle LLL.
