Just reading that Met Police are up in arms at being transferred from the “back in time for tea” league. The statement speaks as if a journey to Wales is like an expedition to the North Pole ... according to google maps it is 2 hours 49 minutes

Their main issue seems to be that their manager lives in Essex (or rather lived - he's resigned now). Apparently the FA should have taken this into account...

Excellent info. Now we have actual stats to comment on. It does seem to me the small amount of saving milagewise makes the whole rearrangement a complete waste of time. 466 miles just about works out at 1 long trip.

I agree with you TRM. Remember that it's not just about us, and as we all know we should be thankful to have the opportunity to see a higher standard of football (hopefully), than we would have had at Step 4.

Also there appears to be a consensus that we should do better in this league, so if that does prove to be the case, what's not to like?

The only good thing about this reorganisation is it stopped us from been relegated. As regards people saying we may do better in this league, we could do better in any of the divisions at this level now as the standard will be lower in all of them. Also don't forget it's not a given that we will improve as there are now 20 odd more teams after the players available.

The fact is it has gained nothing. If regionalisation is what they wanted they may as well have promoted a couple of hundred teams to this level and then we need not have travelled further than Darlaston. In fact just call it the Banks's league....

Taking that suggestion seriously for a moment, you would end up with a dozen Leagues at this level. How are you going to organise promotion? One up from each, and six down from the National League North/South.

The most you could accept at Step 3 (assuming Step 2 remains unaltered) is six Leagues, meaning only the champions go up from each, with three down from both NL N & S as per now. That would mirror last season's Step 4 - and the footprints aren't going to shrink much even then, if you look back at that.

The real problem is our insistence on five national divisions, meaning the pyramid only starts to spread out at level 7 (ie. us). No other country that I am aware of has that many national divisions. France has 3, Spain has 2 (and in it's FOURTH tier there are EIGHTEEN different divisions!), Germany has 3 and Italy has 2. In those countries "Step 7" - if it even goes down that far - is basically Pubs and Ploughed Fields Leagues.

THAT is the root of our problem - assuming you see our pyramid as a problem.
