RIP Dot Harold

Post by YeltzDoc » 02 Aug 2017, 11:38

I've just seen the news on the club's FB feed.

I know that Dot had been ill for a while and was living in sheltered accommodation on Fatherless Barn the last I knew.

Everyone must have a Dot story - I'll start it off.

She went to school with my mother and would regularly see her in Halesowen. On numerous occasions while I was at university, supposedly studying, I would sneak back for matches, and ask Dot not to mention it to my mum should they meet.
For around the next 20 years, I would be greeted at The Grove or elsewhere with a rousing chorus of, "Does your mother know you're here?"

RIP Dot. A Halesowen legend. They should name a stand after her.

Absolutely devastated to read this.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Dot on numerous occasions and she was truly one of a kind. I struggle to remember a match where she wasn't present, even on the Tuesday matches in the pouring rain.

She really brought happiness and laughter to all that were around her at The Grove.

She had a character and a personality that can't be replaced and will be sorely missed.

Rest in Peace Dot.

Didn't she have the final word (as always) in the Yeltz video that was produced a few years ago?
Is it on YouTube anywhere?

Gosh. Very sad news. Nobody at the Grove will remember a time when Dot wasn't around. A great character for sure. Many years ago there was Dot story for most games. ;D Winding up the opposition was her forte. I remember once at Merthyr, about 88ish (when things between us were still a little strained shall we say), and Dot decided to have a go at a very large mouthy Welshman, mostly over the size of his nose! Needless to say it was hilarious. And will any of us forget her favourite phrase to referees?
"When you get it out yer eyes ref, put it round the rhubarb"
RIP Dot. Much loved.

Very sad news! I have many, many memories of Dot at games and on the coaches. She will be sadly missed by everyone associated with Halesowen.

RIP Dot.

I think the one thing that stood out for me was not once in the last 27 years did I ever, and I mean ever, witness her criticising the club. Amazing character who will be very sadly missed, but very fondly remembered I'm sure.

Very sad news. Can I send my best wishes to those who knew Dot personally, and any family that may be reading.

I'm enjoying the various posts of her one liners at the match.

I once had her shove me out the way with her walking stick when I was un-intentionally blocking her view. Nothing malicious and it ended in a joke. Apart from that, I don't think I ever had the pleasure of conversing with her.

Sad news indeed.

I can't claim to have known her personally like many others did or ever really conversing with her but she's been part of the furniture for the 15 years or so I've been coming to the Grove and her constant berating of the officials always bought a chuckle to the terraces and put a smile on my face.

It's clear to see that she was loved by all and she was Yeltz through and through and will always be a true part of Yeltz folklore.

RIP Dot.
