Andy. Does it look to you like the grass has been cut already? If so , has it been left too short ?
I've felt all along that the over enthusiastic cutting regime is the wrong way to go.
Apart from the weed situation the new grass should have been "topped" (just an inch taken off) and then as the roots establish gradually lower the height of the cut.
Twice a week at this stage, and at a very low cut, seems a bit too much, to me.
There again I've only been a gardener for 55 years - what do I know?

I'm afraid you're right Lutters.

I visited the ground this morning and am bitterly disappointed at the state of the p*t*h!
Yes, it's a lot more level, but the amount of bare patches is unbelievable.
It is no better than it was at the end of last season, possibly worse!
The hot weather and lack of rain has not helped but if this p*t*h is ready for the start of the season then I'm a citizen of Amsterdam!

With correct watering we have had the PERFECT grass growing conditions the last couple of months. (IF standard preparation and aftercare has been done). Though if all has not been done correctly its been perfect weed growing weather also....

Could have sworn I read somewhere about irrigation being fitted so the warm weather should not have mattered as water would have been in ample supply to grow the grass?
Can't find reference to it on the website though, so did I imagine that or was it wishful thinking?
Agree with Ken, seems to be the cheap option which we will waste what appeared to be a good opportunity at the start.

Does anyone know what work the friends of the grove are doing over the summer?

Absolute loads!
There is an update on the Club website.
In addition, I'm led to believe, they've had to work their nuts off to try to rescue the pitch from the disaster that if could be.
From the outset the FOTG had nothing whatsoever to do with the renovation of the pitch.
Therefore any problems ensuing from it cannot be laid at their door!

The professionals that carried out this work have completed the same on many other pitches this summer with one difference - Halesowen Town provided the seed to use, all others bought the recommended seed from the supplier.
The results speak for themselves.
