Re: Ilkeston Updates
I actually thought we played better at Buxton last week to get a point than we did today to get three points. Football is like that I suppose. The actions of Platty at the end I didn't see or hear as I was in The Shed, but bearing in mind the injuries the kid has had in OUR shirt if he thought a fellow player had deliberately gone out to hurt him, especially in the face you can maybe understand his reaction. The Ilkeston defender may well be injured (and I wish him a speedy recovery) but his injury was certainly not life changing unlike Platty, who, lets be honest is putting his body on the line for no more than a few quid. Having spoken to Dan on numerous occasions I know how much he's wanted to repay the fans for the money donated and kind words to him when injured. His reaction whilst not ideal, or appropriate but is understandable to anyone of fair mind.
A good win, and an win much needed, fair play to the lads today and the decent crowd helped by a good crowd and a few from Derbyshire who seemed intent on drinking Halesowen dry.
See you at Blyth next week.

No it isn't understandable to people of a 'fair mind'. Whatever the circumstances, the actions were shamefulRobYeltz wrote:I actually thought we played better at Buxton last week to get a point than we did today to get three points. Re: Ilkeston Updates
Without commenting on any incident in particular I would like to add my opinion (and only mine so if anyone doesn't like it well...)...
One thing that has been clearly apparent over the last few weeks during matches (and on Thursday nights in the Yeltz Bar after training) has been the togetherness of both the team and the management.
Performances are improving (I agree with Rob that we were much better last week) and even when we are bad every player is clearly 'in it' and giving 100%.
Passion is a part of football and occasionally it can come out in the wrong way. But at least the players, management and staff care enough to react... Compare Platty on tens of pounds a week (eye injury, lost teeth- playing and trying) to Charles N'Zogbia (tens of thousands for sitting on his arse) for instance! What would we rather have?
I believe the last three games have virtually guaranteed our safety by the first week of March. And I think the 'effort' of all should be commended. I'm already looking forward to Blyth- even the drive!

Re: Ilkeston Updates
Since the debacle at Nantwich 3 weeks ago, the last couple of home games have seen a massive improvement in the performances of the team. I wasn't at Buxton last week so can't specifically comment on that but I hear we played well then as well.
Whilst we were unlucky in those games against Buxton not to get 3 points, yesterday I thought we were more than worthy of the 3 points and well deserved.
We should have gone in at half time ahead as we had a number of chances and a stone wall penalty that wasn't given.
But we kept battling and got the goal from Tyree 'New Bloke' a couple of minutes after coming on and then the second from the penalty spot. Ironically I thought the decision to give that penalty was a bit soft however it made up for the one in the first half that wasn't given.
It's fair to say that it hasn't been the best of seasons and some of the football at times hasn't been very pleasing on the eye, however safety is now more or less guaranteed, which after the poor start we had we would have taken that there and then.
Also interesting to note is the amount of chopping and changing of the squad throughout the season. I know in non-league there tends to be a high turnover of players used anyway but that can't be easy to try and find a settled team. I now think that we do have a settled team/squad of players that actually look like a team who seem more confident and comfortable playing together and not just a bunch of individuals as was maybe the case in the early part of the season. I think that is helping to see an improvement as well.
Up the Yeltz!

We deserved the three points yesterday and well done to all involved.
I still think we need some more points on the board, which I can see us getting to secure our place in premier league.
Now for the long trip to Blythe.

Re: Ilkeston Updates
Quite an enjoyable game of football, usual banter you'll see at every ground every week at every level.
Platty out of order, nice to see him apologise.
Considering Chobble went on the pitch to help their injured player, and helped to stretcher him off, I don't think the abuse towards him was justified, ok, still doesn't justify his reaction.
I'd rather watch the match rather than analysing the crowd to be perfectly honest.
But that's football fans for you, fickle to a man, or should we say person in this day and age?
Good game, good banter, good balti pasty, and a Stoke draw at Chelsea, I've had worse Saturday's.

Glad to see on Ilkeston website that the injured lad - Jordan Wheatley - on badly sprained ankle... feared the worst. PK

The togetherness I agree with, I also think it was great to see a young youth player on the bench yesterday. A nice carrot to dangle to any of the youth lads knowing they get to sit on the bench maybe even play a few minutes. A great incentive indeed and I'd like to see more of the young lads involved as the season draws to a close if possible.
