Yep, looks solid from the little game time he's had here!

I'm a little surprised that now into December we're still discussing the merits of players who are no longer with us. I thought it was fairly clear that players who have left, left by their own choice. I can't imagine for a minute that John would have wanted the majority of his squad to leave, I'm sure any manager would want to keep together the nucleus of a squad and then add to it.

I think some of the players that John signed this season like Pearson and Charles certainly made people think he'd made good signings based on their background, sadly they didn't do the job at the beginning and even after John seemingly gave them time to settle they still didn't really reach the expectation level of fans and the management. John got rid and brought in more players. Young players like Cooper and Collins looked decent additions to the squad but like a lot of young players weren't patient and decided to move on as in their minds weren't playing enough. I can't imagine how hard it must be to bring in players when (like it or not) that lot down the road have money to wave at them, a better pitch and the added bonus or selling a club that has reached the FA Cup first round more frequently than us.

As supporters though it is right that we question and challenge those responsible for running of the club, and I think the new addition of reading John's words about a game is a great addition to hear his thoughts about the playing side of things. I know that John is often quoted in the Halesowen news and heard on Black Country Radio but this is a little different and I like it. However, we have to be mindful that as fans John simply can't tell us everything that is going on with the players and squad, sometimes what is said in the changing rooms or between the players should remain that way.

Going back to Sutton, they battered us fairly and squarely at their place, at ours in the cup I thought apart from two defensive balls ups we were the better side, for the final game who knows what'll happen, but I know looking at the league table which position I'd rather be in. That isn't being disrespectful to Sutton by the way who I think have done brilliantly in their first season in the NPL.

I get what you mean, but the cup stats depend on how you interpret 'frequently'. I reckon we are winning 9-4 on that one!

Also I'm not sure about which position I'd rather be in. Neither team currently looks like getting involved in promotion or relegation. Like you said before, football is about winning games and trophies and whilst we're ahead in the league they're still n 2 cup competitions and thus keeping interest going further into the season.. OK they'll probably lose to Barrow but that's a big game we'd have relished.

Yeah, I probably should have put 'more frequently than us in recent years'.

Can't disagree with your big game comment either, unless we make a late surge for the play offs.

In my opinion regardless of whether the players that left, left through their own accord the squad needed breaking up anyway to improve on mid table, John Hill brought players in who on paper had the C.V's that should have had us challenging, unfortunately football is not played on paper and most that came in with higher level experience that should have really kicked us on didn't do it for us. Sometimes these things don't work out, but what I like about JH is he isn't afraid to make changes and he will keep changing things until he gets it right, which he has also done in the past.
