Hyde United

Post by piearce9 » 19 May 2015, 22:32

Seems that RobYeltz was ahead of the game when it comes to "renaming"' oneself, as this seems to be the latest trend amongst our NPL rivals.

The news today is that Hyde have had FA approval to return to being called Hyde United. It appears they're also moving back to playing in red (they been playing in light blue, due in no small part to a link with Man City).

Darlington 1883 are also looking to drop the "1883" and apparently are a little sensitive about their full name being used. So, if they start getting on your wick, then you know what to do.

Hyde -sorry- Hyde United are also going down the fan ownership route, and are selling shares for £10. They'll be hoping to stop their slide after two successive relegations.

Farsley AFC are now once more known as Farsley Celtic as well - http://www.farsleyafc.co.uk/news/the-ce ... 32079.html

The FA have clearly been busy this week, although Stourbr*dge Town's request to be renamed "Halesowen's Bunnies FC" is still to be ratified.

Well done to Hyde United, now a fan owned football club. Their previous owner John Manship offered to sell the club to the fans and they have successfully done so.

I hope we see more and more fan owned football clubs, seems the way to go nowadays.

Also just announced a sponsorship deal with the 'Lad Bible'.

I think the credibility they've gained from becoming fan owned has certainly been diluted a little with that sponsorship! I guess money talks?

Different to the principles of FC United though, if that's what you are comparing it to. Money does talk with sponsorship.

I think it's always going to be different for any club of a similar stature to compare themselves to FC United. I do think they're model to aspire too though.

I don't know about that! A sponsor with 1.2m followers on Twitter is practically as good a sponsor as you could ever hope to get!

I recall when we had a raffle for main sponsor and Spearmint Rhino were in the mix. Shirt sales would have rocketed!
