Express and Star

Post by yeltz85 » 07 Apr 2015, 15:23

Way over the top in my opinion. This incident obviously happened outside the ground too. Maybe football clubs should walk all fans home holding hands.

The headline for the article is very dramatical. There wasn't a single punch thrown by all accounts and just the same bunch of 'youffs' who spent the first 20 minutes gesticulating to each other with non of them having the balls to and get stuck in. Whilst it was unfortunate and of course unnecessary these young idiots (Halesowen and Stourbr*dge) behaved like yobs it was little more than two bunches of school kids 'cussing' each other. God help them if they'd ever have gone to Millwall, Chelsea or West Ham in the 1980's!
Of course, i'm not condoning it, but what is the club meant to do escort them all home and make sure Mommy has cooked their tea for them?

Ive just read it again.

It's come from a Stourbr*dge Fan... Not an actual journalist working for the Express and Star I believe.

Yes, it's been removed. Not sure exactly why, though both clubs have responded via twitter to argue against the story at least to some degree.

The reporter is a journalist, though as far as I know not particularly experienced (which in itself doesn't mean he's no good). He's written a few interview pieces for our programme with players, which have been decent if a bit "fluffy", which is exactly what you'd expect in a programme after all.

Also, I would suspect that he's not responsible for the headline, which is/was grossly misleading. That's usually down to the subs. It's amazing how many headlines in papers these days bear no relation to the story they lead. Sign of the times...

There was an incident after the game involving "fans" from both sides. Didn't see it, but it's been described to me by people of varying reliability! Basically it was children trying to be butch... and failing.

The old "I'm 10 men cause I'm with my mates" scenario.

Storm in a tea cup.

Totally agree with you. Looks like a blog entry to me. I would hope that all blog entries would have to be authorised by someone before it goes out via social media county wide.

Went to Chelsea, Millwall and West Ham in the 80's. Walk in the park compared to Bristol Rovers and I've heard Frickley was quite feisty

The dingle rag should share the highlights our Yeltz TV lads have done. Surely that's a better story than a couple of school kids throwing handbags at each other.

Silly journalism.
