What Year?

Also I was part of the group that won the bidding for the old Yeltz shirt (1996?!) I'm led to believe. I've uploaded a photo of it, maybe one of the anoraks like Yeltz Doc or LLL will know exactly what year it was from. Anyway it's been decided that the shirt will be framed and put inside the JG Lounge so will remain in the club!

Overlooking the accusation (or should that be compliment) that I'm anything like as much of an anorak as Chas, Dale makes a good point. What year was it?

We think it might be an away shirt from the black / yellow / white home shirt period, and careful note should be taken of the clear background to the Hamer logo as we also had a similar one with a black Hamer logo.

By doing a bit of research and reading between the lines from the conversations I've had with Chas and Doc on twitter sort of come to the assumption it could be from 95/96 or as we started playing in yellow and black from what looks like 96/97 - it could be an away shirt from around this time up to until 2001 when we went back to blue.

Although as I only started following the Yeltz in 2001 I'm not really the best person to be making these presumptions!

I still have one. I think it was our runner up to Rushden year shirt, wasn't it?

Home kit that year was yellow and black, but I am fairly sure we played in that kit in that season, so must have been away shirt.

Looks like the shirt mystery could be solved then and looking at the two pictures that Chas has put up it is definitely the top one!

I think Washy is right.

We know it's NOT the 1995/6 season, as the pic of Dot with Jimmy Rod was that year and it's the version with the collar.
The 96/7 season, we wore the Yellow Armies home shirt -

So it's a reasonable guess that this was the Away Shirt in 96/7 - although I suppose it could have been the year after. Or even 1994/5?

A bit more peering into the past, and I've found some pictures that are frankly terrifying. However they shed a bit of light on the issue (and on how fat and pissed I was in the '90s).

We had a spell of playing Dorchester away as the last game, and, as it is now, fancy dress was the order of the day.

We played them on the following late season Saturdays -

12/04/1997, 1-1, 631, Sharpe
29/04/1995, 1-3, 634, Harrison
30/04/1994, 1-1, 650, OG

And "thanks" to Brother Avery, the following exist...





The shirt I'm teaming with the dressing gown, shorts, surgical cap combo and the one tucked into El Seano's waistband are both the one with the collar, not the one Dale has.

I think these pics are from the '94 and '95 matches respectively, (although quite why it seems to be dark in the first one, I've no idea.)

This would suggest that the collarless shirt is post-95/96, so 96/97 is a good guess.
