Knows where the back of the net is. Beaten off a couple of clubs to sign him. Very good signing and shows how far we have come as a side.

Decent signing, although he has to be remembered as the player who walked off very slowly when we played Kings Lynn at home.

As Guesty said we beat off some very good competition for his signature, which is another sign of intent from John.

Looks a good signing, although it raises a couple of questions about what the midfield shape will look like.

We know that JH likes a grafter in the middle of the park and there've been a few comments on here about how we'd like it to be mixed up with a creative or pacey alternative.

It seems like Macca, even with his Status Quo like return from retirement, will only play a small part going forward and Laity, who gave us width and pace, couldn't get into the side.

From the games I've seen recently, Fordey has been superb, and even with a temperament that can be a bit hair-trigger (he bollocked Sarge all the way off the pitch for something at Marine) I would choose him every time for the destructive, Snapper-esque role in front of the back three.

And I'm really glad that Tonkshinio is getting more game time, he's not the quickest and his shooting can be a bit wayward but he's young and seems to be developing week by week. The ball he put through for Kris Green in ScouseLand was brilliant. Plus of course, his throw-ins, whilst making us a bit one-dimensional at times, really are a great weapon to have.

So, maybe Brags and Turner will slip down the pecking order? Bragioli doesn't put a foot wrong but I think he's a bit too similar to the two players above, and Turner can pinch a goal from the bench but doesn't really give us another dimension IMO.

So maybe Jones will play on the left of a midfield three? I can't see us reverting to 4-4-2, the results have been far too good since we went 3-5-2 / 5-3-2.

I also suspect we'll see all of the midfielders getting decent gametime as injuries and other factors always come into play.

So, after all that ramble and blither, a really interesting signing, showing ambition and hopefully giving us a bit of variety in the middle. Welcome on board Jake.

Why can't you be a good worker AND footballer? I'm sure John Hill wouldn't sign a player who isn't going to put in a shift so I have no worries there.

I think it'll be a case of 3-5-2 as you were but having two 'snotters' (as Rob would say) with a creator.

I still expect to see three central 'snotters' when we play away from home against a good side.

I hope he is - I'm sure his workrate will be good, as it's the ethos of JH and the whole team and he'll be dragged along by it even if it's not his natural game.
You tend to get one or the other at our level though IMO, I can't remember too many speedy grafters who could also open a pickle jar with their left peg (disappointingly...).

Thinking back for "complete" midfielders who we've had, I can only really come up with Birchy and Malcolm. Maybe my rose-tinted testicles have missed a few out from more recent years?

I think you can safely add Ross Collins to that list of greats.

Agree with those 2, would throw Flynny into the mix as well. Maybe couldn't put a ball on a sixpence like the other 2 but had everything else. Since Paul Birch probably not had one.
