Re: Newcastle - Doodson Cup
Just got back; a miserable night weather wise and the performance was one to forget.
We lined up with;
----------------Pearson-------------------------
------Hill---------Tilt------Robinson-----------
Green--------------------------------Griffiths-
--------------------Mackenzie------------------
---------Lait--------------------Tonks----------
--------Thompson-Brown---Long--------------
Subs: Bragoli (HT for Green)
Kettle (HT for Tilt)
Forde for Hill
Sargeant
Turner
Clearly we had more than one eye on Saturday with the team selection, and the performance reflected that also. We didn't make any real challenges and the tackling was almost non-existent. Think of watching a training game between team mates and that's what it was. It fairness, Newcastle looked the same as us. The opening goal came after 5 minutes, Tilt I think it was headed the ball back to Sam from a punt upfield but unfortunately Sam had come miles out of his goal to get the ball unbeknown to Curtis. A massive lack of communication/understanding. Their second was a nice finish, but before then we'd hit the post from a scrambled effort and Green was unlucky when following up to hit the post again. It could have been 2-2 at half time but we found ourselves 3-0 down when a soft goal came from what looked a slip by Sam as he was trying to set himself for the shot.
The second half began with two changes that looked for all the world like saving Curtis and Kristian for Saturday. We had some nice spells of possession at times but their keeper really didn't have much to do in the way of saves as we failed to really create anything at all in the way of chances unlike the first half when we created a few but the finishing wasn't clinical enough.
A crowd of around 65 I would guess at Newcastle, with around 40 hardy Yeltmen and women watching a game soon to be forgotten. Roll on Blyth on Saturday!

Not very PC, I know, but a competition we're well out of!
Hopefully we came out of it with no injuries and can look forward to a top level performance on Saturday.
All respect to those that were there last night - hardy souls indeed!

Is that the first time Kristian hasn't been on the field for about a season and a half?
A great effort.

Correct Doc. ;-)
A competition that I think many fans are pleased not to be in. I remember last year going to Kidsgrove. Attendance was 56. More like 30.

Re: Newcastle - Doodson Cup
All what AV said, and the odd thing is we actually had more shots at goal than them! Green hit the bar and Long had the chance off the line, a few headers second half from corners..... plus one that rolled just wide of the post. But that doesn't make it a good performance....... new ground ticked off though and what an odd one too........

I think Guesty was referring to the game he went too against Kidsgrove. Agree with HH... a rather bizarre ground with the cycle track around the pitch. Glad it's ticked off the list!juanillo wrote:Apparently it was 71(!) - well according to Evostik website.yeltz85 wrote:Attendance was 56. More like 30
