And was it Mick Preston at centre-half? Always kept tight grip on your hero Doc. They were the one league side we struggled against in the Vase era.

Just looked at the records and we didn't beat them from May '85 until Feb '93.
I didn't consider it really put to bed until we stuffed them 5-0 at their place with a Bananaman hat-trick in '96. A game memorable for The Big Ginger Wheelie Bin missing 4 of the goals due to going to the bog.
I'd forgotten the result of the "Limos and Rock Stars fancy dress" match - it seems we won.
And my other memory is of us conceding a goal there under dubious circumstances and Darren Marsh lining up for the subsequent kick-off and standing about a quarter of an inch away from the offending linesman just staring at him in a way that the word "menacing" does no justice to at all.

Mick Preston i thinl LLL was the unexpected captain in 1983 that lifted that plastic vase at wembley that we didnt want to win anyway ! for VS rugby, rugby united , rugby town , afc rugby , egg chasing city whatever they were called in the day !
