I'm sure the club have a strong relationship with Halesowen Town Colts (an U17's and below sunday league team) and I think the colts also use our kit as theirs. I also seem to remember quite recently the colts actually had their team on the pitch at half time during one of our home games to show their trophy or something. So maybe a campaign to get them through the gates could be successful.

As to the buses I think it would cost quite a lot and I'm not sure it would grab a lot of attention. However I could be wrong, some people in Birmingham could be interested however I doubt those on the other end of the line in Stourbr*dge would appreciate it ;)

I do reckon doing some sort of school project could possibly attract the young fans of the future and also their parents.

On the subject of advertising forthcoming games, I think we should spread out more of the match day posters which you could download off the website (although I haven't seen it on the site for a few months) as only a few places do it e.g.: the hasbury chippy. These posters were monthly and had every home game within that month. So possibly there could be a big campaign to get these posters in most pubs, cafes, shops (especially newsagents) or even in the workplace to get other people interested

Firstly before I carry on with the rest of the post I don’t wish to come across as telling people how to do their job, I’m thinking out loud as such!

In terms of attracting new fans I have a few suggestions, talking points, what ever you want to call them! They may have been thought of before or may not work, I’m merely putting my thoughts out there, if it helps then great!

Before last season I was a part time fan and looking back I can’t recall seeing much advertisement letting the good people of Halesowen (and further away for that matter!) when our next home game is! I know there is a good job being done with Facebook and Twitter but how many of our potential fan base have social media accounts, furthermore how many ‘like’ or ‘follow‘ the respective pages of Halesowen. Maybe more (if not already) can be done to get knowledge of forthcoming games out there.

Ideas I have for this are simple things like ‘fixture cards’, ask to have a box of cards left on receptions of local business’, bars at local pubs, or counters in take-aways.

What is, has or can be done by way of advertising in the local press, particularly the News and the Chronicle? I very rarely see advertising of our fixtures in those? Express & Star?

I believe, maybe wrongly and I am sure I will be put right if I am wrong! But I feel that there is a decent sized catchment area for us to aim for. For example there is a no.9 bus stop right out side the Grove, could we not utilise the no.9 bus route to try and attract fans. This bus goes as far as Birmingham City Centre. Maybe a good advertising campaign aiming to attract fans from City could work? To get to a game would require a short bus journey, with plenty of pubs to stop along the way!

On the subject of buses I notice that as well as the advertising outside of the bus there are small posters inside, could this be something we could use?

I know a few people would rather go Wolves, Villa and Albion etc, but maybe really ramp up the advertising of our matches when one or the other aren’t playing, could we not work with these clubs? Surely they'd be open to helping out local clubs, especially when it's not coinciding with their own fixtures?

Again to reiterate I am no expert and have no idea how much advertising costs and whether the it’ll work.

Maybe the club could offer deals to season ticket holders; ‘bring a friend for £1.00’. Or season ticket holders of the aforementioned clubs get admitted for a discount price (seen that suggested elsewhere), for every x amount of fan you bring you get x amount off in the club shop or any like minded offer, an incentive for current fans to bring a mate.

How much are the club getting into local schools? Maybe a good campaign in our local schools trying to get kids into the club could work? What’s more feasible to a parent; taking his children to Albion-v-Villa, tickets for him are £40, his children £15, travel expenses and food & drink, you’re looking at £100 give or take, to go to a Premier League game. Or taking his kids to his local club where it would cost him well under a quarter of that price!

On the point of appealing to a younger generation, do Halesowen offer Sunday league children teams? They may do already, if so apologies. But again it may get some supporters in, in the long run. Also may lead to finding young talent to develop into the first team!

Just throwing some ideas out there, apologies if some of the above has been thought of, mentioned etc.
Anything I can do to help, I am more than willing.
Don't ever think that you are telling others what to do - the best ideas come from lots of different sources. To not suggest something when you have a good idea is the worst thing you could possibly do!

You have some great ideas and some that we are already actively working towards. Getting some of the local schools involves is under way and I hope this will prove beneficial to all involved. In the same vein we are looking at promoting local offices, shops and businesses throughout the season.

Facebook & Twitter are great ways of getting messages across quickly & simply. The power of this is in supporters hands - re tweets, likes etc go a long way to getting more exposure for us. Quite a few already do this but the more the better.

"Bigger" clubs couldn't give a toss about us so getting something out of Villa / WBA etc is a no go and a waste of time and effort.

All of your other suggestions involve cash in one way or another and here lies the biggest challenge. We have no issue in pumping money into something if the income exceeds expenditure however its difficult to monitor impact of bus advertising & local press - both of which don't come cheap. Fixture cards are a good idea and I'll follow that one up as is getting more posters around of the forthcoming fixtures.

Hope this explains things a bit more and any more ideas let me know.

Reading this thread with much interest.

I like the idea of visibility, posters in local chippy, bars etc, also there is the new eatery called 'Flirt' in Town that we could attach ourselves to, where we could both push some mutual custom either way.

If there are posters you want designing then let me know and i'll do it.

Anything that can raise the profile of the club i am happy to help out with.

I have to make our players as pretty each week so i'm a dab hand at Photoshop ;-)

Posters were done last season for each month and distributed by LLL.

Places where our current matchday posters are being displayed: The Big Pet Store, Thornhill News, Darren Leigh Butchers, Brew and View, Blackheath Market, Hasbury Chippy, Options Unisex Hairstylists, Miss Fish (opp. Wilkinson), Four Ways Bar - Rowley Regis.

As with any idea, people have to remember Halesowen is run by volunteers. Suggestions are great and welcome. But if people want to go one step further and implement the idea, then please speak to the committee who would be grateful for any help.

I'm currently awaiting a phone call from the manager of this place, I've exchanged a few tweets with them and popped in to see them on Tuesday. It cost me £10 in ice cream and milkshakes for the family AVFCYeltz so I'm hoping I get a call soon!

Try not to laugh at this suggestion, but it has worked!

One of my interests outside of football and ale is music, my taste is probably very different to most on here. Anyway, a few years ago fans of the band (Marillion) decided they would try and do something a little different to try and get one of their songs some air play on national radio. Not being a mainstream band this is not easy, especially as they have a talent for actually playing real instruments and they haven't appeared on 'Britains Got the Pop Factor'. What they decided to do was form 'Street Teams'. The idea was, fans would target music venues, music shops, etc and inundate them with flyers of the forthcoming single. It worked, they reached (I think) No5 in the charts and the likes of BRMB had to play their charted song.
Now, I'm not suggesting Tonksy and Ben produce a duet but maybe the street team idea could work for us. If we had say 20 fans who were all dedignated an 'area' they could distribute flyers, posters and leaflets. The idea being we hit every possible shop window, pub, supermarket within 1mile of The Grove. Maybe on a given Saturday some of the players could do a Street Football coaching session in the Town Centre and we as fans then get the job of going along in our shirts, distributing leaflets with fixtures and loads of free tickets for kids.
Hopefully if there was a visible presence of us lot there it might help some of the local businesses be persuaded to part with a couple of quid etc.

I like the idea of a visible presence, I'd be hapy to help out with something.

Dunno though, maybe we should produce a song ;) I'd help with that for sure!
