Halesowen News

The much improved coverage continues - maybe due to Nick Pullen being back in charge?
Nick comes on here and I'd be interested in his view.

Anyhoo, Iyesden's probably injured for Saturday - poorly hand.

Christie injured his wrist Saturday and looked in pain when it happened!

Not seen the Halesowen News but had the Chronicle at work, coverage still poor IMO in that particular paper. Just a small column next to a massive picture of the womens team.

Nothing against the womens team what-so-ever, but surely having a massive picture of the mens team and a bigger article would gather more interest and help the club massively?

Seems very strange from the Chronicle to give us little coverage?

In our house this paper tends to go straight from the letter box into the recylcing bin. Never read it.

Halesowen News far better.

Not just for Halesowen FC news.

The chronicle are really good if you send them something so they haven't got to write it themselves. Every week the ladies manager writes and sends off an article and 3 pictures, they always print what is sent and choose the best pic. If someone is willing to send stuff to them about the men's, I'm sure they would print it no problem.

The Halesowen news on the other hand never put the ladies in at all so the manager no longer sends it their way. Really pleased the coverage is getting better from them for the lads :) it can only mean good things for the club

Just a quick note to pre-empt any comments on local press coverage of the league leaders this week. The management at the Halesowen News imposed a deadline of last Friday for this week’s edition, hence this week’s paper will have been written before Saturday’s game. However, there is the good digital offering from the Halesowen News here:

http://www.halesowennews.co.uk/sport/fo ... stmas_No_1

If anyone wants to know the whys and wherefores of how the local sports press coverage works, please come and find me at a home game and I’ll try my best to explain. For newspaper versions, the Sunday Mercury and the Express & Star (Monday edition for a weekend game) give good match report summaries, but without any analysis or comment. The Chronicle is simply cobbled together cheaply using previous match reports from websites, old E&S news pieces and received e-mails without much true journalistic input and is likely to be old news by Thursday. The Halesowen News does at least employ a dedicated club-friendly sports editor to cover us, the problem here is not the quality but quantity i.e. the lack of print space allocated from above to cover us, plus the requirement to cover all the other local teams. The current idea is therefore to use the limited space to try to provide something not available elsewhere. Hence the articles will normally give a mid-week update with comments from the management team (rather than an out of date match report). However, if anyone is interested in supplying action photographs of our games, the Halesowen News will use them and I can help get this set up if you have a word with me at one of the games.

A Merry ‘table-topping’ Christmas to all.

If you follow the link there is an interesting story on the right hand side about a Halesowen businessman going to jail which might stir some unpleasant memories.

Of greater concern was (as stated at the recent forum), there was no hesitation in getting bad news onto the front page. In this case what stated about HTFC was an over-simplification and was factually incorrect
