I think my "happiness" is quite simple. Im happy when we play attractive, on the deck football, that gives me something to cheer and get excited about. Beleive it or not, it isnt all about the result or league table for me.

I've commented many times that a certain section of our fanbase need to rein in their expectations and look at where we were when "he who shall not be mentioned," and A.N. Other took the club to the abyss.

Another related question (for you stats people)

If and if we finish 8th this season, how many times in our history would we have finished in a higher position? What is our highest ever finish etc?

I know the structure of the leagues has changed over the years, but just a question/thought. Anyone?

the year we came 2nd to Rushden and diamonds 1995-96 we would have been promoted to the conference league.

so these days we would have came 2nd in the conference south/north so the league above now.there was 3 leagues back then so maybe now it is now a slightly stronger league conference north/south

that season i think we were won 15-drew 4-lost 2 AWAY from Home, Home form cost us promotion that year

With NINETY TWO points as well! And no play offs. It was heartbreaking. And FIVE teams from that division went on to play in the football league, but not us. :-\

And the season after, Gresley won the league, were ineligible for promotion and Cheltenham went up, just a point ahead of us.

That's a great point, but I'm going for 10
All still exist but under different names.
Rushden
Salisbury
Atherstone
Baldock
Rugby
Gravesend
Merthyr
Worcester
Ilkeston
Sudbury

Did think Newport as well but they had already reformed a few years prior to that

Very rough, considering Conf N&S as "Same" and our level as "Worse" and riding roughshod over reformations, administrations and machinations.

15 worse, 5 better, 2 the same.

Rushden & Diamonds – Worse
Halesowen Town – Worse
Cheltenham Town – Better
Gloucester City – Same
Gresley Rovers – Worse
Worcester City – Worse
Merthyr Tydfil – Worse
Hastings Town – Worse
Crawley Town - Better
Sudbury Town - Worse
Gravesend & Northfleet – Better
Chelmsford City – Same
Dorchester Town – Worse
Newport – Better
Salisbury City – Worse
Burton Albion – Better
Atherstone United – Worse
Baldock Town – Worse
Cambridge City – Worse
Ilkeston Town – Worse
Stafford Rangers - Worse
VS Rugby – Worse

And if you consider the better teams at our level to be "Same", its probably add another 4/5 to "Same".

Overall, more trouble than not. Especially if you consider the AFCs, a category we so nearly fell into.
