Re: Leamington Updates
Pre-Season Friendly – Saturday, 23rd July 2022
Halesowen Town 0 Leamington 1
Halesowen lost out narrowly as Dan Turner hit National League North Leamington’s solitary goal early in the second half, writes DJ. The pre-season friendly saw the return of former Yeltz manager Paul Holleran, who has now clocked up over 600 games in his 13th year at the helm of Leamington.
Home captain for the day Rob Evans blocked Simeon Maye to give Leamington a 14th minute corner in an evenly contested first half. Yeltz goalkeeper Dan Whitehouse made a tremendous save just a minute later after Turner did well to turn in the penalty area and Ben Usher-Shipway then curled just wide of Whitehouse’s post.
Halesowen’s first real chance came in the 16th minute when Simeon Cobourne fired across goal after being put clear by Max Morris. Jamie Insall’s 28th minute low, long range shot was then blocked and Cobourne went close again a minute later, but was blocked by Theo Streete. Just before the interval, Insall put Cobourne through on goal but the trialist Leamington goalkeeper saved in a one-on-one.
The Brakes took the lead two minutes into the second half after TURNER took advantage of Halesowen losing the ball to chip over goalkeeper Whitehouse into an empty net.
For the Yeltz, a low 54th minute volley from Evans was well saved and Insall hit a fierce shot over the bar five minutes later. Cobourne’s 61st minute shot was saved after he was set up by Insall and Max Morris then also volleyed just over the bar. After a series of substitutions, Josh Quaynor’s 76th minute free-kick was easily collected by the Leamington goalkeeper and substitute Matt Funge earned an 83rd minute corner. In the final moments, home goalkeeper Whitehouse did well to save after Kieran Morris’s back-pass fell short and Kieran Morris went close at the other end when Dexter Dudley-Toole headed on from Max Morris’s 88th minute corner.
Halesowen Town: Dan Whitehouse; Josh Ezewele, Josh Quaynor, Ahmed Ali, Kieran Morris, Rob Evans (c) (Trialist 59), Max Morris, Nathan Hayward (Papy Brandon Mossini), Jamie Insall, Richard Smith (Matt Funge 66), Simeon Cobourne (Dexter Dudley-Toole 79). Unused Sub: Nat Kelly.
Leamington: Trialist A; Dan Meredith, Jack Lane, Joe Clarke (c) (Jack Edwards 66), Junior English, Theo Streete (Connor Taylor 61), Ben Usher-Shipway (Trialist B 55), Simeon Maye, Dan Turner (Trialist C 70), Alex Prosser (Adam Walker 66), Kieron Cook (Bailey Fuller 58). Unused Subs: Ethan Pheasey, Steph Morley.
