Halesowen Town 2 Coalville Town 3

Halesowen fell behind three times to be edged out by the odd goal in five as Coalville finally ended their six-game losing league sequence.

New signing Ethan Jones made an immediate impact in a four-goal first-half as he burst down the right in the first minute and his shot was turned away for a corner by Coalville goalkeeper Jamie Hannis. At the other end, Dan Platt saved Blair Anderson’s 4th minute effort.

The visitors took a 14th minute lead when a daisy-cutter from captain Steve TOWERS squeezed inside Platt’s post from 30 yards out. But the Yeltz were soon back on level terms in the 24th minute when defender Lee Torr was pressurised and caught out by JONES, who then produced a great finish to beat Hannis.

With plenty of chances at each end, Cleveland Taylor floated over a cross for Dan Creaney to plant a free header on top of the net after 31 minutes. CREANEY then regained the lead for Coalville in the 33rd minute by stroking home from the penalty spot after Marcus Poscha up-ended Nathan Watson down the left of the penalty box.

The Yeltz equalised again to make it 2-2 in the 38th minute after another superb 20-yard strike from Jones rebounded down off the underside of the crossbar and Daniel UDOH was on hand to follow up and smash home the rebound. Just before the interval, Halesowen forced five further corners in quick succession.

Towers had the ball in the net for Coalville again early in the second half from Tom McGlinchy’s glancing header but his effort was ruled offside and Kyle Dixon then dragged a 58th minute shot wide from a right-wing cross.

The home side had a great chance to grab the lead in the 63rd minute but Kyle Morrison headed over the bar in front of goal after Danny Bragoli flicked on a free-kick. Jones caused danger once more down the left three minutes later but was eventually blocked and John McAtee’s 68th minute shot was gathered at the second attempt by Hannis.

But it was the Ravens who struck an excellent 78th minute winner when WATSON burst down the left and finished superbly. The visitors played out the rest of the game with relative ease, although Bragoli nodded an injury time header just wide.

With regard to Daniel Udoh.being subbed after 60 mins. Maybe Crewe insisted he only played for that amount of time after his recent concussion.
Just a thought.

If there is any doubt regarding a concussion he should be no where near the pitch, let alone only 'allowed' to play 60 mins.

What a nice change it makes going down the Grove and seeing an exciting game of football where both teams played good stuff in patches.

Ethan Jones, McAtee & Udoh looked excellent up front for us and caused problems for the Coalville defence, throughout the first half - It's great to see us look like we can score a goal, rather than play aimless, tactically inept football...

It's a shame we'll most likely go back to the latter once they all return to their parent clubs in due course. (McAtee and Udoh are on loan, what about Jones? - nothing on our up-to-date official site, brilliant, isn't it...)

How shakey do we look at the back? We look like gifting a goal away every time the opponent attacks us. It's due to the poor defending and school boy mistakes we missed out what would have been a deserved point.

All three of their goals were sloppy from our point, the way we gifted too much space and time for them to get a shot off from the edge of the area, coupled with a Platt mistake for their first, a poor & needless challenge to gift them a penalty for their second, and Goddard trying to be fancy on the halfway line gifting the ball away, with a needless back heel. Keep things simple, for goodness sake! It's not rocket science!

Their third was a brilliant counter attack and finish, worthy of winning any game - it has to be said.

Overall an enjoyable game, ruined by poor defending & baffling subs that led to us losing momentum as we chased a late equaliser.

I really do fear for us when the loanees go back, it'll be back to how we were playing a month ago, sadly.

I am led to believe that was the case. There was never any fear for him though, just over caution on Crewes part.

The last 10-20 mins went a little flat, but it was one of the most open games of football I've seen down The Grove in a long old while. To have two creative midfielders in Goddard and McAtee and two lively strikers in Udoh and Jones was really refreshing. If people want to see open football then I guess the down side is that we're going to end up losing games by the odd goal in the process.

I know that we're severely hampered by injuries at the moment, but it felt like there was nothing on the bench to really change the game in our favour. Diop, bearing in mind his size, doesn't win the big headers and the youngsters that came on couldn't make an impact with the game still finely balanced.

The fixtures over the next couple of months are really kind, so there's a big opportunity to pick up some momentum. With only one going down, we do have the opportunity to play with some more freedom and roll the dice more often- so let's hope we see more entertainment, for better or worse.

Agree with all the previous comments. Great to see an open game but our defence looked shaky, especially for the first 2 goals. 3rd was just a great goal.

Frustrating to see us go back to hoof ball when we went 3-2 down as we’ve see time and time again this doesn’t work. Udoh sub makes sense with Crewe perhaps requesting it but Jones being taken off when he was causing them all sorts of problems for a midfielder when we’re trailing?

I did think we put a lot of crosses out of play when we had men in the box but also we crossed in the box when the men were on the edge of the box and wasted a few good chances.

When the loan signings go back it’s going to cause us a lot of problems and I hope John is preparing for that.

Hopefully we can tighten it up at the back with a new signing or two and keep playing the ball on the floor and at the very least it’ll be more entertaining to watch.

For me though a change is still needed, I think we have some really decent players that we aren’t getting the most out of.

Official site confirms we've signed Ethan Jones.

That's only recently gone on, then!

Good to know he's a signing and not a loanee.

Nail. Head.

The side we put out last night was decent enough, in my opinion, some very good talent. There are a couple of players who started last night that shouldn't be any where near the squad, but it was certainly a side capable of beating a Coalville side who have suffered six straight defeats!
