Yes, absolutely no danger, nothing happening, 2 minutes to go. A crazy moment.

Stupid think to do, no doubt, but if a grown man can look himself in the mirror after play acting like that…

Despite the real disappointment of last night’s result, as a non-fan of the play offs, I accept that over the season, two teams have been better than us, and in my world, Stamford would have been automatically promoted. It’s now possible that Belper who finished 5th, 11 points behind them, could go up. Nonetheless, I think it’s been the best season for results and quality of football for several years, and let’s hope next season we can get over the line. Fortunately neither Nuneaton nor Bromsgrove, who both looked in trouble towards the end of the season were relegated from the league above, as either would have been a big rival, so I think we’ve got grounds to be optimistic. No more than that though – there’s a bit of me thinking that the sometimes dismissive attitude towards “smaller” clubs from some fans, and at times the team, just gives them an extra little incentive to upset the odds. Some comments before the start of the last couple of seasons have been along the lines of how we were going to pi55 the league. In the last few weeks, there’s been indifference from some about whether we were that bothered about promotion. I’m sure there will be calm heads at the club in the coming days, and that any decisions about next season will be made sensibly. Here’s to 2022-23!

Embarrassing from both players.

I've got a lot of time for McCone, he's been wonderful since signing. But that's not good enough from him, and he's cost us the season.

That one hurt last night and will take some time to get over. A moment of madness from our skipper with the game heading to extra time was unbelievable.

Overall though, promotion wasn’t lost last night. It was lost in the games we through away - Carlton & Corby away, Sutton at home to name but a few. Also our inability to win the ‘big games’ against promotion rivals as well fundamentally has meant we haven’t been good enough.

Questions will be asked of the management/players although I’m not sure now is the right time. In terms of my opinions of Paul, I am on the fence. Part of me feels he warrants another chance to have one more shot at promotion for the way in which he has turned the club around off the pitch. However another part of me feels if he decides to walk away I wouldn’t be overly gutted as I would have been if he had walked away after the first season. What will be will be I guess.

The most important thing is us fans will still be there next season.

Some perspective (feel free to disagree - I know plenty will).

I was a huge Yeltz fan in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s but went off to uni, drifted away, and when I came back, didn’t really start going again. I’d go to the occasional game, came out for Stourbr*dge, saw a bit of the era that must not be talked of, but that was about it.

I started going again later era John Hill and saw lots of the Rob and Larry debacle. My moniker here is a knowing nod to being something of a Jonny-come-lately, but for me, the low point football wise was New Years’ Day away at Redditch in 2019. We were woeful that day - it was really painful to watch- and there wasn’t an enormous following (fair to say it wasn’t non existent, but it wasn’t huge either). Contrast that with what we’ve seen in the three years since…

I remember Nuneaton coming on New Years’ Day in 1999 and an attendance of 1500 blowing me away. How many times have we seen that this year though? These things don’t happen in vacuums. It’s part of the whole project Paul Smith has been at the centre of (I know and appreciate there are many others involved) but it would be naive I think to pretend he’s not part of it. The club is in a sensational place and making decisions on the basis of whether Joey Butlin squeezes someone’s bollocks (speculating obviously) strikes me as mental. Yes he does and says things I don’t like, but so does my boss and so does my mum. I’m not going to agree with everything and neither is anyone else.

I’m as disappointed as anyone at how this season has played out (I’ve just had a big shout and scream), but I look at where the club is (and therefore has the potential to be) and think wholesale changes would be madness. As I say, plenty will disagree and that’s your prerogative, but in context, I think the Smith era has been a success and hope it continues.
I agree with every bit of this post and I have exactly the same sentiments. But you articulated it much better than I could.

Stupid. Im guessing Macca thought he went to nobble Platty, and gave him some. Didnt think so last night, but was a penalty. Likewise, Laity, should have had one. So the ref is still a cnut.

Some of our discipline over the season has been appalling imho, and thats just added to it.

Things are obviously still raw. I think that one of the most important considerations is that no decisions should be taken in a hurry. An impetuous moment last night cost us the season, it is important that the gains made over recent years don't follow this season down the plug hole
