Re: Chasetown (A) - FA Trophy
Going back to the game, I actually thought we played better yesterday than we did a month ago at their place when we beat them 4-1. That night we weren’t great but took our chances and had to rely on a Platty masterclass which made the scoreline rather flattering to us.
Yesterday I thought we were the better side throughout the majority of the game. We had the better chances and should have had the game wrapped up but again another goalkeeping masterclass, this time from their keeper denied us.
You just knew when it went to penalties that it wasn’t going to be our day, but fair play to Chasetown who celebrated like they had won the actual Trophy at the end.
Shame the event was tarnished by a few of their school kids who had maybe had one too many shandies and trying to reinact Green Street albeit hiding behind their stewards before running off crying to their dads who then once the situation had calmed decided to pick on some of our club officials for no reason whatsoever.
Anyhow, it’s always disappointing to lose a game no matter the competition, especially after our heroics in this one two years ago, but to quote the usual cliche ‘we can now concentrate on the league.’ We all know promotion is the end goal and now we have exited the main cup competitions there are no more excuses. Anything other than promotion this season would be considered a failure.

A couple of other positives for me in addition to those previously mentioned from the game yesterday.
The link up on the left between Holmes and Manning was excellent, each supporting the other in our attacks down that side, always a threat.
Also felt Goddard kept finding good space and seemed to earn time on the ball to play, willing to pick up the ball from our central defenders and distribute well.

They've been drawn at home to Alvechurch in the next round (3rd Qual), shame, that would have been a nice test. Still we'll hopefully be in that league next season!
