With my creaking knees I couldn't offer a prayer (if I believed in that sort of thing.)

Re: Carlton Town updates
Sorry to burst the bubble (illusion)!
Yes we won but not easy, not comfortable and a tad fortunate.
First half could have gone either way we had good spells attacking as they did Ruben Wiggens Thomas (Carlton player) often a threat to our goal.
We scored first and Ben also hit the upright and Warren Brookes shot wide.
Carlton were physical which reflected in the number of bookings for them 5 i think. We only had 1 if memory serves me well.
Second half we were more or less all 11 players camped in our half and when the ball was hoofed forward no one was able to get to it before their defence hit it back. Carlton made several changes and for 15 minutes the debate amongst us away fans was will Sean make a change before they equalise in defence or midfield as we were under the cosh and a couple of our players in those positions seemed to be tiring. We even suggested to Ollie one of our midlfield subs warming up in front of us he should go and tell sean to put him on. Much to our suprise Sean makes a change Griffin for Brooks striker for striker Doh! What was the logic behind this tatic as previously said ball not reaching anyone up front.
Tatically wrong (again!) they equalise.
Then it could have gone either way and Jean-Michel will be top of Sean's christmas card list (off Yeltz85 who predicted 1-1) with the help of the other players scored what proved to be the winner. They had kept going till the end tahnk goodness.
Unfortunately I think it is time to part ways permantly with Mr Westwood (when will he ever learn!).
He had one of his good games (first showing of the season) until 2-1 up dying seconds of the game he runs the ball down the wing taken out by Carlton player we win free kick and he boils, loses his head and re-acts good job Ben H was quick at peace keeping as attacking to prevent a red card. Only a yellow was shown and then Sean (got it right credit were credit is occassionally due) subbed him straight away.
So the score as you should all know does not tell the true picture, our home attendences will.

Re: Carlton Town updates
now hang on a minute, I think you're way out of line there. Your opinion is one thing but when it's woefully inaccurate so it's verging on being poisonous so as to deliberately alienate those who weren't there, then you're affecting the whole club.
It could be interpreted that what you're saying is "we were shit Saturday, don't bother going Tuesday 'cos we'll be shit again"
What were you expecting? Champagne football and a 4-0 win?
Have a reality check mate - we were playing the team who finished runners-up last season and only lost 3 games at home all season - they are fancied to be right up there again and there won't be many teams going there this season and picking up points.
As such, it was always going to be a tough, close game - so you have to go with a game plan. In my mind, we gave a solid, disciplined and professional performance.
Tactically wrong? We won the game pal

Re: Carlton Town updates
Ok,
so i think the problem we have is that what John C is saying (and i have heard it in the flesh from many others who went to the game) is that last season we slipped a lot of points due to 'tactical errors' (a certain 4-3 game comes to mind, as well as a two goal advantage at North Leigh) .
I think with this in mind a lot of people are seeing the same tactics that were used last season and failed, YES this time it worked out, but then again we did do very well the first half of last season. I think if the whole opposition is camped in our half, the fans were expecting to see a sub that would protect the lead. And i agree Pete0690 this time it worked!
In regards to turning fans away, losing to Dudley Town in the FA Cup will do a lot more damage than John C complaining on a forum! 'We were shit against Dudley Town, So i don't think many people will bother at all, let alone Tuesday' is more accurate.
I Know i am bringing the FA cup up again but it was important wasn't it?
Ask the rest of the 150 plus who didn't come after the FA cup match.

Pete in the lack of DJ's usual unbiased report on the main website I wanted to provide people with the insights from the fans at the match Saturday.pete0690 wrote:Your opinion is one thing but when it's woefully inaccurate so it's verging on being poisonous so as to deliberately alienate those who weren't there.

It is not poisonous and no way intended to alienate those not at the games home or away.
I did not use your words and say it was "shit".
What is inaccurate about what I posted?
Were we not under pressure majority second half? You said it was a tough and difficult match.
Did Sean swap a striker for a striker?
Did Westwood loose it?
I have been to all the competive games so far this season (as i did last season) home and away and will continue to do so.
Several fans have said they will not come to the Grove whilst the current manager is in situ. I don't agree (unless the M**s*n era for different reasons) and anyone who truely supports a team see's it through tough times as well as the glory days. Oh and yes i missed the glory days of the FA Vase years.

Re: Carlton Town updates
Pete, you're wasting your time, certain folk on here just want rid of Shaun. They've no particular plan to put forward other than Matty Clarke spending money we don't have. I don't imagine Steve is going to act on the whim of a few nasty forum comments. I take a relatively big interest in what goes on behind the club to bring in money and the efforts a fair few have been doing deserves credit whilst others just berate on here. It's probably best if you just rise above it all. Again I'm not a big fan of the manager but I think he should be given enough time this season to have learnt from last year. Bookings etc appear to be down so far and on another day we could have had 5 or 6 against Dudley if Ben had been as reliable as the league games. That's the magic of the cup which unfortunately shat on us this time.
Call me pedantic (seems to be the 'in' thing on here) but didn't we lose 5-4 to Wimborne, and didn't we slip a lot points because we only had 10 men on the pitch by the end. Ho hum, ill carry on going and try and bring along others, its still my team and will be long after Shaun et al have moved on whether they're successful or not.
I think I need to go and beat a drum elsewhere now I've calmed down..........

As you tell us every game Jon, you obviously don't want Shaun as boss, so who would you're first choice be?JohnC wrote: Never said who should replace Sean, never said spend money we don't have.
I do know we have to rely on the gates money this season.

Re: Carlton Town updates
Yes it was 5-4 you are right! Sorry maybe i still can't believe it?
I never mentioned anything about Matt Clarke, i also haven't heard anyone else mention him either?
The hard work and raising money from individuals has been immense, and everyone is working their socks off, maybe a cup run would of made it easier to get revenue for the club?? Or even persuade more people to come so you don't have to try and get people to come? The magic of the cup has shat on us for quite a few seasons frankly! Imagine if we have a difficult draw next time!!
The truth is, the die hard fans (not all of course) are saying they want a change. The attendances are dropping, yet in the league we are doing well, behind the scenes are fantastic, we are a stable club again,
so what's wrong,?????????

In the land of Disney when Sean leaves they that have the ultimate say will have to see who throws their hat in the ring.HalesowenHarry wrote:As you tell us every game Jon, you obviously don't want Shaun as boss, so who would you're first choice be?JohnC wrote: Never said who should replace Sean, never said spend money we don't have.

One thing i don't think Harry Redknapp will be throwing his hat in.
