Re: Blyth updates
Radio Northumberland thought we deserved the draw and were unlucky not to win!
Ben, and particularly Isyeden impressed the commentators.
Brilliant result for all the Yeltz who were there!

Watching the Lye this afternoon, we're 1 down and Mark Penn comes and says hello, and then our equaliser arrives. Great stuff!

Re: Blyth updates
Looking forward to the match report off the fans who went today , the live match commentary was not complimentary towards our back 3 , although they said Green played well , great finish by Ben and the subs swung the game in our favour and should have won , is this correct ?

Re: Blyth updates
Fantastic goal from Ben who lobbed the keeper perfectly. A draw was a fair result I think with both sides being really committed. Subs did make a difference and we finally made the late pressure pay. The 50-odd Yeltz fans were very happy. Great cup tie.

Re: Blyth updates
Just got back. Left at 8:15 this morning. We're lucky we weren't on the coach, I expect they'll be back home about 11:30. The roadworks meant it was 50 mph for much of the journey. Johnny Bud would have been screwed...or banned from driving.
The locals were most hospitable, very friendly with their own Spartans Smooth pour beer, it was cheap and very nice indeed. Blyth is a proper football ground with a nice main stand and covered roofing down the other side of the pitch with covered terracing at both ends.
The game itself was full of endevour with neither keeper really having a great deal to do other than collect a few crosses. Late in the first half Curtis was very fortunate to not get sent off, when the referee awarded a free kick to Blyth and gave him a booking (not sure it was even a foul) Curtis appeared to kick the ball away. Had the referee been as picky here as he was with some of his other baffling decisions Curtis might have seen red. Isedyn came the closest to breaking the deadlock almost on the stroke of half time for us when his low shot, on the turn scrapped the outside of the post and went out for a goal kick.
The second half we fell behind to a Robbie Dale finish, this (if you remember from the home game) was their lanky wide No11, he again was a tricky opponent but his finish seemed easy enough after a knock down from the centre forward. We didn't really create any clear cut opportunities after this, the lads were pressing hard for an equaliser and winning a good number of corners, throw ins and free kicks further up the pitch. A number of goal mouth scrambles ensued but credit to Blyth they always seemed to have a body in the way to make a block. We also had two chances where Ben and Isedyn inadvertently blocked a couple of shots from their team mates.
When it seemed like we would be coming away with nothing Ben Haseley managed to nab a beauty of a goal. With the Blyth keeper committed to closing Ben down he lifted the ball perfectly over him towards goal. It was one of those moments where the ball then seemed to take an age to hit the net and for a second as the ball bounced up off the skiddy surface it looked as though it would even bounce up and over the bar. It didn't though and chaos ensued as all of the players ran to the traveling fans behind the goal with Ben who was clearly delighted to grab such an important equaliser. We celebrated as if we'd won the FA Trophy.
I always try and not have a go at referees and whilst we were lucky in one sense that Curtis was not sent off he seemed after that intent on giving them almost everything. He was really, really poor for both teams.
Anyway, they have to come to us on Tuesday. From their body language they looked a tired and beaten team at the end of the game and will no doubt struggle with a journey to us on a Tuesday night. It won't be easy I'm sure, but we could really do with a big crowd at The Grove to yell these boys home. Forget the pre-madonnas on the tv who don't give a shit, get down on Saturday and give these lads the support. To a man they battled superbly today and were a credit to our shirt.
