Re: Gresley Updates
Cracking result and some brutal finishing against a side who played some decent football at times apart from in our danger zone. A fantastic way to bounce back from Saturday, worked hard to get men round the ball to get it back, look hungry and work well as a team. Well done lads ! Really excited for the rest of the season !

Re: Gresley Updates
Ironically, I think we have played as well against other teams this season and not had the same outcome, Romulus being an example. We've created chances in other games but not took the chances through missing the target or the opposition keeper making the saves. Tonight I thought in front of goal we were on fire and hit the target much more. Whilst Ben will deservedly get the headlines for his goals, Turners strike was equally sublime.
My player run down.
Paul Evans - Came back and did what was required of him. A couple of brilliant early kicks up field put us on the front front.
Kristian Green - His run for the own goal was brilliant. As solid, quick and dependable as ever.
Adam Meacham - His usual 7/10 steady Eddie performance.
Neil MacKenzie - Some brilliant passes tonight and was responsible for dictating the pace in which we played.
Joe Hull - Is growing into a better player every time I see him. Strong in the air and reads the game well for such a young player.
Curtis Tilt - He reminds me of Des Walker in his prime. He just seems to find the game so easy, and when does get in trouble he has the pace and strength to get himself out of trouble.
Matt Martin - I thought Ginna was excellent tonight. Strong in the air, made some good tackles and gave us some drive from the middle. Unlucky again to be booked.
Tom Tonks - Probably Tonksy's quietest game for a while I thought. You can never knock his effort though especially in recent weeks were I think he's been the heartbeat of the team.
Isedyn Christie - At times tonight I thought he showed some real quality, at other times he struggled to play close enough to Ben. He could do with a goal...
Ben Haseley - He's just bloody brilliant isn't he?
Elliot Turner - A superb strike for his goal. Worked really hard tonight I thought.
Subs.
Jean Michelle Guyes - Did well when he came on, wouldn't be surprised to see him get a start on Saturday
Aaron Griffiths - Didn't get long, did ok in his time on the pitch
Nigel Penney - Again, didn't get too long but made a nuisance of himself.
Overall - It was vital to win tonight after Saturday and the boys did it with ease. One thing this team doesn't lack is desire, passion and effort. If any team does beat us this season it won't be through lack of effort that is for sure.

Re: Gresley Updates
Guyes looked sharp and a threat when he came on.
I wouldn't drop Lait or Turner in the wide positions to accommodate him though...
Bit of an idea which may get laughed at...but when Ben's of on wedding duties would anyone on here be tempted to give Guyes a go up front? Pacey, seems to have good skill? Just a thought.

Re: Gresley Updates
Great win by the way last night...no disrespect to Kelly, but Tilt makes a big difference to us in defence IMO. When he plays we look so calm at the back and don't look like conceding.
Defensively we're sound, two very good full backs, IMO a class cb in Tilt along with several good options as well as two good keepers.
I thought Turner and Martin (again) were outstanding.
Ben getting his usually 2 or more goals. Great win and the perfect way to bounce back from cup injustice. I think Gresely suffered the wounded animal.
Brilliant display. Lying in 4th...2 points clear of 6th with 2 games in hand..2 games in hand over Leek 10 points behind though
but we play them soon (couple of weeks Tuesday? :s) Being optimistic but we're in a very good position. Still think we can win this league.
Ben will be a big loss but we've got goals in us still.

I wish you would not keep marking Meacham 7/10 sometimes he must be better or worse and remember they can and do look on here!AVFCYELTZ wrote:

Christie obviously does not have the legs anymore for 90 mins and conserves himself. Last night he did it again held the ball up with three players around him turned and put the pass on the boot of another player who can run.
Not sure what management will do when Ben is away on wedding duty I assume play Nigel Penny with Christie which is why he had chance last night. It will be an interesting tatical decision to look out for.
The TEAM \ SQUAD are all trying there best and working hard and majority of time it is working.
Good entertaining football and results to match.

I think Christie is a good player, good foil for Haseley...I thought he (Christie) played well last night. Maybe anyone who plays alongside Ben isn't going to look as good as they actually are for obvious reasons.JohnC wrote:Christie obviously does not have the legs anymore for 90 mins and conserves himself. Christie's hold up play is great and what we need. He had a couple of chances to score, which he maybe should have taken, but generally thought he played well. Unlucky not to score in the first half when the GK tipped his effort over the bar.
I also think Meacham plays better than 7/10?I wish you would not keep marking Meacham 7/10 sometimes he must be better or worse and remember they can and do look on here!

Don't know what people think, it would certainly be harsh not to give Penny a go given he's actually a striker and Gueyes isn't...interesting to see how this will pan out. Maybe even go 4-5-1? With Lait Tonks Mackenzie Martin and Turner in midfield with Christie up top...who knows!'Gueyes looked sharp and a threat when he came on.

The writer of that report is definitely a little bit in love with Ben! Then again, who isn't?! I may have to change my icon pic thingy. Sorry Eldon!ginger dynamo wrote:Match report from Gresleys website. Quite an enjoyable read!
