We made heavy weather of it today against a team with a -21 goal difference before the game. However, a win is a win and it will do the lads the world of good to get one.

As already mentioned, Tom Warmer was excellent. Superb distribution, workrate and reading of the game which was the difference today and Ben was his clinical self in front of goal. Although Hucknall could have been 2-0 up before we scored.

Still concerned with things at the back, there were a few occasions today when Evans told the defender what he wanted him to do, yet it seemed to be ignored, putting us under pressure. JH needs to sort this out, we can't keep relying on outscoring the opposition.

Good day though with 3 points gained, not to mention the Baggies winning again ;D

With you on this 100% - How come Colin Brookes could play him in the correct position but this is the 2nd 'proper' manager who can't spot the obvious?

played on right..scored goals, set others up, terrified defences, gets fans excited every time he `goes for it`
...then when you need a goal push him up front and thats what you get (not least cause he can get us a penalty or 2!)
on the left..sad to see, cant get into game, made to look a poorer player, seems such a waste.

Surely the reason he is playing on the left is that he is left footed, that is why he also played some games as left back last season. When he played on the right he had to keep coming inside. You notice he took the corners with his left foot.

Decided to go to see Scrabbles first game in charge.

Was interested to see how he might change things, and aside from 3 new signings, plus Alex Ford on a season long loan from Ilkeston, he switched to a 3-5-2 wing backs system with Ash, Millns and Jack Green as the 3 central defenders. We certainly had a more solid look about us although a lack of width was apparent at times.

We probably shaded the first half and were unlucky not to take the lead with Topliss hitting the post with a lob over the keeper. Halesowen inevitably took the lead with a back post header from a set-piece (poor marking). We didn't let our heads drop and equalised with a well taken finish from Austin.

Halesowen dominated the second half and it was a bit of a backs-to-the-wall display from us. Our goalie made some cracking saves but they managed to get a winner halfway through the half. Halesowen had an 18-goal striker in their ranks today and he duly made it an astonishing 20 against us today. At this rate he could well end up with 60 goals by the seasons end! We only created one chance, but should have found ourselves 2-1 up when Hatfield hit the post with just the keeper to beat from 8 yards. Worryingly, Ford hobbbled off at the end (replaced by Robbo upfront!).

Taking the positives out of the game, every one of the new signings was very impressive. Goalkeepers perfromance was one of the most eye-catching debuts I have seen in a long time. Millns is very strong in the air and won everything, Ash was Ash and we know what Ford can do. Scrabble is obviously trying to make us more difficult to beat and I think that is the right way to go. There is a distinct lack of quality in other areas and we could not compete with Halesowens passing and movement second half. Scrabble looks to have plucked a few gems out for us so far on a tight budget, I am hoping he can find a few more, particularly in midfield areas.

All in all not a bad performance but a lot to work on for Scrabble and Co if we are to get ourselves off the bottom. hmm

My take on yesterday,

Thought we played better again but rode our luck slightly in the first half. Hucknall had a new manager in charge who could obviously spot what they were doing wrong straight away and made four changes during the week. A new keeper and defenders were his priority....

I think that defensivly we are still missing something... This may improve when Caines comes back in and Bowen beds down slightly. Think we have got to give them a bit more of a chance to gel, Winsper 6 apps, Joe Hull 3 apps and Bowen 3 apps now. Going to take a bit more time I think.

Warmer looks superb and hopefully will continue those displays thoughout the season. Contract required soon?

Still undecided about Evans, I had high hopes for him with his past etc and scoring all those goals last season. He may just need one and they will start to flow.... Nav looked good when he came on.

Agree that Tom Warmer should have been man of the match. Bit confused about the Jean Michel debate and agree with the comments that as he is strongly left footed he should play on the left to give us much needed width and as on the right, defenders soon suss that he has to go inside. The problem I have with him is that he keeps facing the wrong direction (backwards) and passes and moves square or back - not forwards, allowing their defence to get back in time. Scare them by attacking with the skill he has - almost McGrath like at times and very frustrating. Slightly better performance overall despite a shocking advert for football in the first half.
P.S. To cap it all the drinks are now going up to £1. Mysterious tales of a small cup shortage to add to the missing Bovril tales?! Anyone know of a good cash n carry where they stock such things?

`bovril tales` think youre thinking of the soup..oxtail
i heard the lack of bovril was as a result of a request from some vegetarians..although they were happy for us to carry on with the `beef` burgers
