3 defeats on the trot with Kettering away next, just 1 goal scored and that was a penalty. We scored 2 against Redditch but they came from a corner and a free kick. Looking very different without Ponticelli.

TBH I've been thinking for a while now there isn't much difference between most of the sides in this division. Today summed it up. Bromsgrove were no better than us and once again we looked bang average. If there was a class act in this league they would be 15 points clear by now. Really not sure how we can gain any consistency because we do not know what sort of performance we will get from one week to the next. Thankfully all the other teams seem to be in the same boat, so let's hope we can regain a bit of form and go again. It really is there for the taking but not on todays showing.

Halesowen Town 0 Bromsgrove Sporting 2

Bromsgrove struck two second-half goals to condemn Halesowen to a third consecutive defeat over the Christmas and New Year week, writes DJ.

In-form but still relegation-haunted Bromsgrove had already gathered nine points from their last four games and executed a defensive masterclass to keep Halesowen at bay.

Manager Russ Penn reflected on the run of poor results. “Today’s the worst of the lot to be honest, especially the second half. It’s really disappointing. Ten days ago we were all merry and bouncing, we’ve got to move on quickly.” Penn further explained that “effort was there, but the game is about showing quality – that’s what we’ve not done in three games. We’re not ruthless enough in defence at the moment. Our game management since the Redditch game has been really poor.”

In the opening minute, McKauley Manning clipped the ball forward for Conor Tee to nod just wide. Bromsgrove’s James Meddows then surged forward allowing Finley Holmes to beat Ryan Wollacott and drill a low shot just wide in the 8th minute.

In end-to-end action, Ryan Wynter stooped to head wide from Todd Parker’s 19th minute cross and Meddows found space on the right of the penalty area but his 25th minute shot was turned onto the post by home goalkeeper Dan Platt. Holmes then fired over the Yeltz bar two minutes later.

As Halesowen continued to test the Bromsgrove defence, Manning whipped in a dangerous cross along goal following a 29th minute corner and Wollacott planted a dangerous header across goal in the 32nd minute. A minute later Carter Lycett’s shot was collected by Platt at the second attempt and at the other end Manning’s effort was turned away for a corner. Just before half-time Tee’s ball across goal just evaded Kieren Donnelly and Donnelly then headed Manning’s free-kick at goalkeeper Charlie Price, leaving the contest nicely poised at the interval.

Tee struck a 25 yard free-kick past the post at the start of the second period, but it was the Rouslers who went on to cement a fine team performance with two second-half goals.

MEDDOWS fired Bromsgrove into a 54th minute lead when he stabbed home into the bottom corner after meeting a right-wing cross from Aksum White. Halesowen had a golden chance to equalise just two minutes later but Price made a fabulous save to deny Alex Cameron in front of goal after Tee squared the ball from the right. Cameron then came close to connecting with Manning’s dangerous ball along goal in the 57th minute.

Bromsgrove wrapped up the points in the 69th minute after they pumped a long ball forward from a Halesowen break and Billy Shaw headed on to set former Yeltz loanee HOLMES free down the centre to bury a low shot beyond Platt. Theo Robinson then went close for the visitors but his 78th minute shot was turned away for a corner following a scramble in the penalty area.

The Rouslers continued to defend solidly in depth to deny the Yeltz with Ashley Carter and Aaron Roberts in composed form at the heart of their defence as Tee’s 81st minute free-kick drifted across the area and out to safety and Manning struck just past the post from 20 yards.
