Telford Updates

That was a disappointing end, but an exciting game and we could have dramatically forced extra time at the end.

I thought for 20 minutes in the first half we made some good chances and could have had more than one goal.

I think their advantage in physicality swayed it and we weren’t as effective in the second half. Still, it took a horrible defensive sliced kick to gift them the winner just after we’d got it back to 2 2.

I think Telford will win at Kettering, but either way, at least one ‘big’ team will be vacating our league.

Difficult one to take last night, but can’t fault the effort of the lads, they gave it everything. Telford just had that bit more overall.

It’s one of those - we’d have taken a play off place at the start of the season - but you can’t help feeling that it was a missed opportunity somewhat. We were a decent striker throughout the season away from winning the league. If Pontecelli had come sooner in the season or stayed longer it could have been different.

We go again next season. Of course there will no doubt be comings and goings but I’d like to see us keep the core of the squad together and challenge again.

A real tough one to take that. I didn’t think we played particularly amazingly but did really well to stay in the game and create chances when some of it was backs to the wall. Just a couple of mistakes at the back have in the end cost us and that’s really tough to take. But it’s been a great season and amazing to be a part of. We go again

Small margins. The booking of Cassidy seemed to give us the wobble to then concede 2 in 3 just on half time. We kept going though and felt so sorry for Woolacott with that mistake as he has been superb this season and was excellent again last night bar that.

Thought the behaviour from the majority of both sets of supporters was excellent and on the whole everyone should be proud of that. We're still on the up, the club is run beyond well as far as we all can see, so let's hope we keep building. From 2019 through to now in 2025 we've finished 2nd (and probably would have beat Berko to that title), had the non-event 2020-21, then beaten semi finals in 2021-22, won the 2022-23 play offs, 2023-24 consolidated (even though some think we should win everything all the time ) and now beaten semi finalists at level 3. Of course we always want more, but that ain't bad. And look at the gates we get.

Not entirely sure what to make of it. In many ways, Telford will feel a bit like we did at step 4 - too big for that level, and that there is a sort of natural justice at them going up (not that anyone has any right to anything).

Next year will be a challenge - rumours are that Spalding will be going full time, and at the very least chucking serious cash at it, while Pirate FC have plenty of crypto dollars to disrupt the non-league economy (urgh). Kettering strikes me as something of a castle built on sand, but who knows, and they might be at Step 2 with Telford still around anyway. Chuck in a potentially resurgent Hednesford (maybe) and a Quorn side throwing money around as well. Let’s just say there’s plenty of scope for a strong league.

That doesn’t mean we won’t be there or thereabouts, but there will be some changes I’d have thought - can’t see KD hanging around (why else would he have an agent?) I also wonder if that’s Platty’s last game. I hope not, but rumours are rumours…

It’s not like it was three years ago - going to Bromsgrove isn’t the same as going to Wisbech (or Lye!), but I can’t help shaking the sense that this year would have been a good year to go up. Oh well. As a wiser man* than me once said, ‘that’s football Kev’.
