Post. Right at the very end and only for a couple of games.
At least that’s how I remember it.
LLL, or the STFC version, TRM, can no doubt corroborate or correct me if I’ve completely mis-remembered.
(And I hope I have…).
Only from memory but I think Paul was at Stourbr*dge when John Morris brought him back to The Grove for the 92/93 season. He stayed for a few seasons and scored 49 of his goals total in that spell including hat tricks in home games against Nuneaton and Cambridge

The "right at the end for a couple of games " you have in mind is that he made just the 2 starting appearances at the beginning of the 95/96 although he was on the bench several times

Warning, please don't look at these press reports (one by the late Nigel Pearson) if you'd rather not
know how many goals Paul actually scored down at Amblecote - these are from January 1993:
20250224_201029.jpg
There's also a great tale to tell for Paul's further return to the Grove from Blakenall in the
95/96 season for his final two appearances - this is from my review of that season:

On Boxing Day Halesowen mounted a second-half fightback to salvage a point in an exciting 3-3
derby draw against Worcester City, watched by 1,119 fans at the Grove, after two-goal Williams
volleyed home an 87th minute equaliser. The game also brought an unexpected last-minute
playing appearance by club legend Paul Joinson after he arrived at the game as a Boxing Day
spectator – and answered an SOS as a player. The Legend had gone to watch the top of the
table Beazer Premier match but after being accosted as he walked across the car park, he ended
up as a substitute for the depleted Yeltz, playing a part in the equaliser.
Halesowen General Manager Colin Brookes took up the story at the time. “It was a quarter to two
and we were just weighing up the line-up when I saw him walking to the Directors’ Box. He’d
come down to ask about training with us after leaving Blakenall and I said ‘You could do better
than that – do you fancy playing?’ ’Give me half an hour’ he said ‘and I’ll go and get my kit.’ You
should have heard the reception from the fans when he came on as substitute. Halesowen Town
is still Paul Joinson’s home and everybody loves him.” Paul remained on emergency stand-by for
the visit of Salisbury City on January 6th - his final appearance on a Yeltz teamsheet and the last
remaining playing link back to the transformational FA Vase winning years of the early 1980s."

(Incidentally, a bit off topic, but the full review of that 95/96 season is here:

Just did not remember he'd gone to Stour, and for obviously quite a few months. Imagine what his career totals for us would have been were it not for the fact we let him go for 3 years.

I also don’t remember him at all. But DJ’s review has bought a lot of Proustian rushes…
Mind you, I’m surprised I have any recollection of that season as I don’t think any of the Jolly Boys saw a match in any state approaching sobriety.
Lovely to see that pic of Dot with Jimmy Rod too.
We went to the end of season do at The Strathallan, and were chatting to Jim.
Err, confident sort of chap, if I remember correctly.

The main memory of the evening is of Andy A trying to stop a taxi at about 3am by lying in the middle of the Hagley Road.
Seemed a very sensible option at the time.

I would like to plead insanity M'lud, but I suspect it was more to do with buckets of alcohol. ::)

Paul joined us in Summer 1992 and spent the first half of the season with us before going back to you. He was certainly prolific, alongside Evran Wright (who scored 56 goals that season) and Toby Hall up front. We thrashed teams for fun, but also lost a few high-scoring games thanks to our consequent shortage of midfielders and a defence that was two years more elderly than when we won the League in 1991... It's still my very favourite season ever.

A couple of little asides...

PJ is, to the best of my knowledge, the only player to have scored a hat-trick both for and against Stourbr*dge in my lifetime. For us, he scored three in a 6-1 win against an abject Forest Green (whatever happened to them...?), having done likewise for Redditch in 1-4 defeat at Amblecote in our 1990-91 Midland Division Championship season. Needless to say it was our only home defeat that season.

Adrian Cooper moved from Halesowen to Stourbr*dge around the time Paul made the opposite journey. Both played in the League Cup semi-final against their former clubs that season, despite both being "Cup Tied" having played earlier in the comp for the 'other' club. I think registration rules were the same as for League games at the time, so cup-tying wasn't a thing in the League Cup.

Dennis Burke was a lunatic (in every sense!) keeper who played for Redditch and Hinckley. Frankly I'm surprised nobody remembers him, always good for a proper meltdown and a red card whenevr he played against us. Think Nathan Vaughan on steroids...

And finally, if you want to reminisce about PJ banging in goals in a red and white shirt, there's plenty to look back on here, particularly the first 10 minutes or so. It also includes lengthy highlights from both legs of the League Cup semi-final from about 1 hr 18 onwards...
