Dean Coleman Signs

Halesowen Town have tonight announced the signing of ex-yeltzman and shot stopper Dean Coleman from Banbury United. Dean played for Halesowen Town in two previous spells, once on loan during the 2005-06 season from Walsall and the other at the start of the 2010 season. In total Dean made 69 appearances for the Yeltz, conceeding 86 goals and keeping 24 clean sheets in his time at the club. Manager John Hill said, 'Dean has joined the club to give added stength and experience to the squad ahead of this weekend clash with Market Drayton Town.'

Born in Dudley, West Midlands, Coleman came up through the youth system at Football League club Walsall, playing in two first team games during the 2004–05 season and spending the 2005–06 season on loan at Halesowen Town, before being released by The Saddlers in May 2006. He had a further spell with Halesowen Town in 2010 inbetween spells with Worcester City & Kidderminster Harriers and others.

Strange i did not know he could play as a central defender!

I would have thought a central defender was higher priority than a goalie. If this leads to the exit from The Grove of Paul Evans, we'll miss a good guy and, presumably, match photos won't be so abundant as we are indebted in this area to Paul's Dad who's another good guy.

Without sounding disrespectful to Coleman, conceding 86 goals in 69 appearances ain't good and I don't think the keepers is a department we need to strengthen; Evans is an excellent keeper, and Flowers too.
JH obviously knows something I don't, welcome back to the Grove Dean :)

It's a bit of a strange one especially as Coleman only recently joined Banbury. I can’t see Coleman or Evans wanting to sit on the bench both of them are too good for that. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see who’s between the sticks tomorrow.

Don't think we need a new keeper, should concentrate on we're we are going wrong before the ball gets to goals. Flower has never been given a fair shout under JH.

Tbf he had a decent game against Market Drayton, but I still think Evans should always be No.1 for Halesowen

He seemed to command his area very well and his kicks (apart from one) were accurate and more direct, rather than attempting to set an altitude record.

This was up for discussion Saturday night and our resident mathematician pointed out some stats (it'd be unfair for me to try and remember them and take JohnnyBud's credit) that have completely changed my mind; obviously only time will tell, but it does look like a good signing...
