Shame it never worked out, looked a very good signing on paper when announced.

I think he was 32 when signed, with a playing career at many clubs, quite a number at a higher level than we are playing at this season.

Whilst not wishing to be ‘wise in hindsight’ any player in his early 30s is unlikely to improve so what does the club gain by offering a contract to a player of this age in future times, other than ensuring their services are retained for the season (for better or worse)?

I recall a few years back an ex Wolves winger high profile signing ( N Ireland international if not mistaken) unfortunately that too from recollection was not a success, names anyone ????

Robbie Dennison?

Edit: Before my time but Wikipedia says he had a "brief spell" with us in 1999.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - 10 years younger than Lee Hughes who was also with us at the same time. You would think it was the other way round.

Whilst Lee could give us a good 70 minutes and found the net often, Ebanks-Blake couldn't give us 70 seconds.

However, later that season Blake scored against us (i think the ball hit his stomach and went in) for Barwell.

There have been several ex pros that have played for us, with varying degrees of success. Paul Birch obviously very good and Paul Devlin and Dennis Bailey. Paul Harding and Ricky Otto rather less so.

Darren Caskey did well for us too. Including saving a penalty against Evesham after (another) red card for Nick Bussey.

That's the one thanks!

We also had Ian Olney, who, beyond scoring away at Doncaster, did the sum total of nothing for us. He was unspeakably bad.

Neil Mckensie and Iyesden Christie were at the end of their career but done a great job. I think when an ex pro comes down the levels their football intelligence sometimes shows and it makes up for what they lack in legs. Have we had many players play at the very top league and eventually end up playing for us. I can think of Birch, Caskey, and Moore
