I would much more prefer that we play on grass and have games called off than play on crappy plastic.

Game scheduled at Barwell today called off, plastic pitch there as well!

Quick follow up, seems it was the fog not the frost causing the Barwell postponement.

I suppose the ground under the carpet was frozen as well as the rubber on the pitch. Now someone impart their knowledge on me and lets talk about frost covers, as I know nothing about them at our level. Are they like a vacuum flask and if laid on frozen ground, does the ground stay frozen or does it help thaw the pitch out Brummie ??. Because I tell you what. If the new weather forecast is correct, which it is sometimes, Tuesday match will be in jeopardy , if that is n't frozen as well.

Not sure what quality covers we use. There are many 'grades' of cover offering protection to lower temperatures. It's a case of anything is better than nothing as it traps slightly warmer air underneath than the dropping temperature above. That said, if the pitch is already at low temperature and we get a hard prolonged frost as we have, it's a losing battle.

I remember Mickleover last season being achingly cold and the covers being in use but I guess that must have passed inspection and then got gradually colder as the day went on.

Dropped over to Rushall today to quench the thirst for football. I'm no fan of plastic pitches but they managed to get the game on and beat the mighty Scunthorpe to boot..It also made me realise how much we'd struggle should we get promotion.
