...and why did goalkeepers back in the day wear fisherman's polo neck jumpers? I'm guessing not a multimillion sponsorship deal from Adidas.πŸ˜‚

I bet Westys got one. Apparently he's a much better fish catcher than Doc.🐟

That he is.
He has a sponsorship deal with Millets.

I thought that we played Stortford in one of our Wembley Vase runs but hey ho the memory fades. What I do remember however, is their manager , ex Arsenal and England centre forward, John Radford pacing the pitch out and then complaining to the ref that the pitch was too small. I think it caused a slight kick off delay.

I remember that cup tie against BS. Weren't they some big shakes from a higher division back then?

Just checked. They were going well in the Isthmian Prem, which at the time was level 2, and in recent years had been on some decent Cup and Trophy runs. Until they met us of course. ;)

That team had a great history of tonking Step 2 sides.

A particular favourite - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =520477296

Interesting to see Stuart Edmunds getting a brace from midfield - not centre forward as the KL report claims.
No 9 was centre mid for us during the '80s, usually "Sir" Johnny Woodhouse. I was never sure why. Anyone any idea?
I suspect that it was a simple as that the shirt fitted...

And I wonder whatever happened to "Mark" Hazlewood? Obviously a typo.
They must have meant Mark Aizlewood, who did a great job playing for Charlton, Leeds and a few others whilst simultaneously working for Securicor.
I'm not sure how he got his 39 Welsh caps though, I thought he was from Colley Gate?

Peter Sturgess the unlikely goalscorer
