Wrong time, place, planet.
After touching on this subject in another thread I thought it might be worth giving it it's own. It may prove a damp squib, it may throw up some laughs. Any stories of turning up and it wasn't quite what you expected?
I have my own to start. Atherstone away, late eighties. Turned up on the pub next doors car park about something to 2 and found a space relatively easily, we used to have a good following back then so expected more. Walking toward the turnstile saw quite a few familiar faces outside and in the pub. Then saw players walking back to the coach with all their gear! Damn, game must be off. Then the penny dropped, stupid 11-30 kick offs......

My story that got an airing on Talksport - train from London to Bromsgrove for a match. No taxis to be had for love nor money at Bromsgrove train station, got there and paid in at half time. Ref called it off during the break for fog.
And it was a pretty nervous trip up to Gretna on the train, not knowing if the game was on or off.... Never been so happy to see a Harris's coach.

It was funny though. I was stood by the gate at half time and spoke to him as he came in. A couple of minutes later, game postponed.

Nah, that was very much RIGHT time, RIGHT place.
You'd only travelled about 320 miles by several modes of transport, on a Thursday, in minus temperatures, to a game that was in doubt. What are you bleating about?

Strange, I was there to greet you as you walked into that one as well. At least with that game on I know it's not me that's the bad omen!

Not that many years ago I drove to Ashton Town (in Wigan) when we were playing Ashton United (in Oldham). We got as far as the turnstiles before realising we were in the wrong place! Fortunately, I had left some time for my passengers to take alcohol on board so with some ‘careful’ driving we got to the right ground at about 3.05!

One of my visits to back to Halesowen happened to be when the (abandoned) Chippenham play off semi was played, but by the time the tie was replayed I was back in sunny Spain.
So got soaked watching us 3-2 down after about half an hour and missed the victory a few days later.

Postponed match at Trowbridge turned out a bit better though.YeltzDoc wrote: ↑03 Feb 2021, 11:12My story that got an airing on Talksport - train from London to Bromsgrove for a match. Brilliant. Did you have Tim Clarke as navigator?Johnny Bud wrote: ↑03 Feb 2021, 18:25Not that many years ago I drove to Ashton Town (in Wigan) when we were playing Ashton United (in Oldham).
